This Makes Me So Mad.

I heard a call on the scanner about a dog that has been left outside all day in the yard, no shade, no shelter, no food, no water. How can people do this? My dog likes to be outside, when I bring him in he barks to go back out, but I make him stay in where it's cool. When he is out, he has a house, always cold water, I fill up empty soda bottles and freeze them and he plays with those until they thaw. I just don't see how people can leave their dogs out without water or shade.

Well, needless to say, the police are at the house where the dog is and are calling for animal control because the dog isn't doing so good. I sure hope they go back and let the owners have it. That's just not right.

I agree those people are azzholes. I mean for god sake it was close to 100 today and with humidity it probably was like 110 degrees. I have a dog and I DID NOT leave her outside at all today I took her out to do her business then brought her back into the airconditioned house where she laid on the tile floor because she was hot from her 5min outside (shes a st bernard and they love the cold a lot better).

In My Opinion
while I was out sweltering, the animals were comfy in the house with food, water, a/c and the animal channel on for the dog. (he honestly watches it)

My crazy dog wants to be out there, I make him stay in even though he barks his head off to go out. There's plenty of shade out there and he has a house, but he's a black lab, so I can just imagine him soaking up the heat, plus his water gets hot quick no matter how much ice I put in it.

I have two big dogs and two little ones. They are all house mutts. I have been taking them out several times a day for like 10 minutes at a time. They all are black and can't take the heat. I couldn't image leaving them out in this heat.

 for the people that made the call to the police, at least they were looking out for the dog, since the jerk owners werent.

The really sad thing is. I hear these calls all day and if the officer goes out and finds water and a shelter then they do anything. I think this is not right, water heats up really quick outside on a day like this. Would you want to drink scalding hot water? Not me. Even inside I change my dog's water every couple of hours or throw some ice cubes in it.

:cussing::burning:I just heard a call in Prince Frederick for a dog locked in a vehicle, no animal control available. That person needs to be locked in a vehicle for a while, see how they like it.:tantrum

Rassie LOVES to be outside. She is out all the time on the weekends when we are at home, basically laying on the porch. We NEVER leave her out when we aren't here at home. She'd love to stay out there all day, but it's not an option. The cat does stay outside all day and has no desire to come inside. He doesn't seem to mind the heat.

There used to be a family that were strange. They had their dog tied up to a post in the back of their yard. No shade, no water, no food, just dirt. I would stop everyday at Bryantown Mall and get a bottle of water and a hot dog and feed and water him. The family bailed and left the dog and some cats in the house. The cats were dead by time the owner of the house went in to estimate the damage. The dog was close to death and I think it did pass away due to malnutrition and dehydration. I called Animal Control several times to get the animal. These people couldn't take care of their kids, let alone an animal. Social Services were at the house numerous times. I still think of the dog when I pass the house. I just regret not pushing Animal Control harder and maybe the dog would have lived. Its just sad. I always said people should have to pass a test before being able to have animals. Just like you are adopting a child, have the same background checks for the animals also.

I could never figure out why people got animals if they couldn't take care of them. I'm freaking out because I'm going away next week and have all my animals covered except my Beta Fish. He lived a lot lot longer than I thought he would. Got him for my daughter a while back. Anyone want a Beta fish that is gorgeous and very healthy? My daughter lost interest and now, guess who's got fish duty? Just kidding, I wouldn't get rid of him, he's really cool, just need someone to watch him for a few days.

Has confinement issues..
Lucky only wants in the house when it rains. It was really hot today but I had to leave so in stead of putting him out on the run or in his pen, I turned him loose. He didn't stray anywhere but to the house behind me so he could find his won shady spot or lay in his dog house if he wanted. I put lots of water out and left the pen open. I figured it would be ok for him to do that once in a while. I hate to see him stuck in one spot when it's hot. I was outside all day today and I was fine as long as I was moving around.

if you are only going away for a couple of days and cant find anyone to fish-sit, maybe you could get one of those fish food vacation feeders that they sell at walmart and petco. When you stick them in your fish tank, they dissolve over time and feed your fish. I've used them before for bettas and they work fine. Dont know how they would work with other fish, so I wouldnt recommend it for others species.

Thanks for that info! Don't know why I did'n't think of something like that. I'll have to check Petco and Walmart. :yay:

why should they do anything? if the dog has water and shade he is doing better than most of the construction workers out there.

I mean i can understand calling if the dog has no shelter or water, but if they have both, what exactly is the issue?

When it's really, really hot and someone is gone all day, I don't think it's right to leave the dog out, but if you're home and change the water then that's not a big deal. Most of the people that call say the owners have been gone all day or even for days. That's not right.

what is the difference if the animal has shelter and water?

and most of the people that call are buttinskis that should mind their own business, unless there is actually a law being broken. The fact that animal control does nothing proves the call was unfounded

animals and people with shade/water/food can be perfectly happy. Hell i'm not even 30 and i grew up without air conditioning running around outside all summer long with my border collie. Dogs that preffer to be inside in A/C are either in the wrong climate zone or spoiled. I think people especially here in america are spoiled into thinking that they can't live without all the extras we've gotten so used to. People in much hotter climates do fine without A/C and heck, in Hondurus taking a hot shower is rare and the best A/C is a stiff breeze.

tieing a dog out in the sun with no water is however a death sentance, and should be punished.
