No doubt...12 yrs old, he's not far from kicking the bucket anyway...what a shame. A trainer or behaviorist would possibly be able to help them keep the dog and the kid...some folks just don't wanna try to make things work, its too easy to give up and get rid of the dog.

This poor dog... 12-11-2007 12:49 AM So just what do you think should be done, find the DOG a new home or the new BABY. It it bothers you that much, then take the DOG, and STFU

Hmm...looks like someone can't read. I said what I thought should be done in my first post.

Maybe I am confused but Cowgirl and softball you feel this 12yo dog should be put down rather than finding a new home? Am I hearing you right. Cause the ad doesnt speak of any ill health.

I don't think I said anything about putting him down...older dogs can find new homes and live out their last years w/ love...we placed a 10 yr old lab earlier this year, and in the last month or so placed another 8 yr old lab mix, as well as other older dogs.
I would think it would be easier on the dog to stay w/ the family that has had him the past 12 yrs than to be rehomed. A trainer or behaviorist could have possibly helped.
If they were going to take him to the shelter - I would possibly say it would be better to be euthanized w/ familiar loving arms around you than to die by himself in a shelter w/ a heap of other dogs. Many older dogs that go to the shelter do not make it back out - there's hope someone may feel sorry for them and pull them- but it doesn't happen often. So to live the last few days or wks of your life in a shelter, wondering where your family went, when are they coming back for you, all the sounds, smells and noise at the shelter, certainly makes many dogs have anxiety and issues the last days of their life...The lucky ones get pulled and a new chance at life.

When I volunteered at Montgomery County Humane Society this was the hardest thing to see...heartbreaking.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I feel that the dog would be too traumatized by finding a new home. He's 12 years old. Why put him through that stress? It sounds like the owners are just to "inconvenienced" by him to worry about his well-being. I feel like the dog would be better off to be put down by a vet while his owner is holding him. Maybe the owners are just too cheap or too lazy to deal with him properly.

I would never give up a 12 year old dog. How selfish is that? They could deal with him for 12 years, but now they're just going to toss him aside because they can't be bothered by him? Someone on craigslist responded saying she saw the ad when the owner first got pregnant...now they're saying to dog is jealous of the baby. The dog doesn't deserved to just get cast aside like trash. It makes me sick when pet owners are just to selfish and lazy to deal with their senior pets. There's just no excuse for it. That's my opinion.

I thought I recognized your style..
You wished the baby chickens death the other day:

" What a silly hen. I would think they'll be ok out of the stall. I'm sure she can find a corner of the barn with some bedding to make a nice little nest for the babes. If not, they'll die....and the hen will get a Darwin award"

Why are you a cowgirl? You slaughter farm animals for a living?

I cant beleive you would even suggest that!
Put it down because it is 12?

Why?????
Gosh, you are a mean person!

:drama: Yes, I'm so mean. I think it would be much better to uproot a 12 year old dog and make him go through the trauma of finding a new home, possibly put up with more crappy owners, possibly be bounced around again. That's much nicer.

:diva: Yes! I have slaughtered chickens, as a matter of fact. I eat meat! :diva: I raised some cute little baby chicks so I could eat them! I took my own cute wittle lambs to the slaughterhouse so I could put them in my freezer! :diva: I even eat deer!! :faint: Poor Bambi! :bawl: I even ate a nice steer named The Dude. He let us ride on his back! But he sure tasted good! :yum:

I'm such a mean, evil person! :jet:

There is a lil old lady that lives behind me..she is the biggest dog lover, she has pretty much clepted my dog as he wont come home anymore since she walks him 5 times a day and feeds him eggs and bacon for breakfast and cooks him chicken and rice every evening..She would give this dog a very good home and wouldnt be at all concerned about his age. He could live out what ever time he had left in a very happy place..So i was just wondering if the dog was still available, I would take him and give him to her for xmas.

I had a Cocker Spaniel/Chow mix who lived to be nearly 20 that I got when she was 4 years old and that was the sweetest, smartest dog I have ever had in my entire life. Brandy helped me raise my kids! Seriously - she watched over them like she was a second Mama. If I could ever find another dog like her I would be so happy but I believe she was a one of a kind.
