What happened to this baby could happen to any child (regardless of age). The family has a big open property with plenty of room for four wheelers. The parents were raised on four wheelers. They taught their son early on how to work it. He was not unsupervised. She sat there the entire time, supervising him. When it was time to come in, she told her to get off the four wheeler...with any almost three year old, they dont' want to, they want to have fun. She turned the switch off, as she's done many times before. The ground was wet from Friday's rain and the front wheels turned, the entire four wheeler slid and flipped. The boy was trapped under the four wheeler, while his mother ran helplessly to him. 911 was called, but it was too late as his chest was crushed. His mother watched him die. This child wasn't left to roam around and do as he pleased. His mother was very attentive. Yes, most 2 year olds shouldn't be riding a four wheeler. I agree with you there. Yes, he had a toy that was too big for him. Yes, he's dead. But I'm asking that you please have some sympathy for these people and respect the fact that they're mourning and their lives will never be the same. I stick by the fact that she made a mistake. She shouldn't have allowed her husband to buy her son that present....and trust me, she'd give anything to go back. Hold your babies tighter tonight knowing that they're safe, I did after I heard the news. Anything can happen in the blink of an eye. Accidents happen.
So this 4-wheeler was so large and heavy that even the mother couldn't remove the atv from her dying child? If it was that heavy and cumbersome, there is NO WAY that a child should have been anywhere near that vehicle.

The father was a moron for purchasing it in the first place.

I want that red flat chair you sit on and just twist back and forth. Saw it on TV. That way I can do that while I'm watching tV and eating cookies.

As others have said in this forum and I type this with my eyes welling up, the child was two and had no place on that 4 wheeler. It was a stupid, tragic, senseless, ill thing.

No, it was so heavy a two year old couldn't get it off himself.
That's why it had a warning lable saying it's not for kids under 6.

This is the last of what I have to say. I understand your definition of a "mistake"...but she didn't do it on purpose. She's paid the ultimate price and it isn't up to you dorks to punish her. Get a life...seriously. Get off the message boards, get some exercise, and live a full life. And I would like to put emphasis onGET SOME EXERCISE 'cause everyone knows what message board people are like....

you are on here also which now makes you a message board person...so why don't you go outside and get some exercise yourself...nobody in here said they were perfect they just have common sense...you don't put a baby on a powerful machine...i wouldn't even put a 6 year old on one to be quite honest...what ever happened to those little jeeps and cars that kids used to ride on...much safer...accidents can happen but try your best to prevent them...just like someone else said...it is like leaving a 2 year old in a 13 story building with the window open...yeah it could have happened a different way but don't make it easier...i'm not saying it was done on purpose just that it could have been prevented with some common sense

But as this family friend said, the mother watched this event happen and then ran to the child.

Could the mom not lift the atv off of her baby? If she had tried, perhaps the baby would have lived, is all I'm saying. :ohwell:

I don't know if he would have lived. His injuries were pretty bad.

I didn't read anything that made me think the mother couldn't lift it off the child. Everything I read indicated that his little chest was crushed on impact so I don't see where it made a difference.

You can not prevent what you can not predict. We are all broken hearted for the child because this accident was very predictable. As a family that has been reasied with four wheelers, they should have had respect for the machine. By letting that sweet baby on the ATV they took a risk with their child's life. If you put a child in a shark tank, don't be surprised if they get eaten.

From what I understand it was a broken rib that caused a laceration to the liver. :frown:
