A good way to evaluate this situation is to imagine if SOMEONE ELSE were watching that child and the same thing happened while on that caretaker's watch.

How would this boy's parents handle the situation if a babysitter or an aunt were watching this kid instead of them and the same thing happened to him. Would they try to bring charges against the caretaker for negligent homicide or child endangerment? Probably so. So it's not unreasonable to think that this same fate should come to the parents on THEIR watch.

Quite simply, this death happened because they provided this tiny child with a toy that was not age appropriate for him. They were reckless and irresponsible, and their actions should have serious criminal consequences.
By George! Excellent post! :yay:

None of us claim to be perfect. Yes, children get bumps and bruises all the time, but not at the carelessness of their parents. They fall down and bust lips, they climb trees and fall out, the ride bikes (when they're old enough and big enough) and fall off. I didn't teach my daughter to ride a bike until she was 5 years old. Parents don't intentionally put their children in harms way as these parents did. It was not an accident that the parents purchased the "toy". It was not an accident that the child was "operating" it.

:yeahthat: Anybody that puts a baby on one of these things wants that child to die a little bit. I pray that his sweet soul has peace and that we can all learn a lesson about being careful from his death.

Maybe, but I think they have to live with what they did, which to me would be a lot worse than what the law would do. Plus if they had other kids they too would suffer from any legal action.

Yes, you did. I thought it was just the voices in my head speaking to me in their usual way, but then I realized that it was your voice talking to me.

So, someone can commit negligent homicide and get away with it? Heck, it happens all the time, so I'm not surprised they no charges are being levied against them. But I'd worry about their other child(ren). Clearly, they don't have a great track record for ensuring the safety and well-being of this child...so it's reasonable to think that the other kid(s) will be in jeopardy.

from what I understand the child was not operating this ATV. the child was a passenger sitting in front of the mother. when the mother slipped off the back, the child hit the button and went forward. the mother hit the kill switch and called for the child. startled, the child turned, turning the handles on the ATV causing it to tip over.

I find that kind of hard to believe when the mothers fan club is here saying she was sitting and supervising.

The mother was on a "toy" intended for 6-12 year olds?

Fan Club? Okay then. And I never once said that, you were so quick to judge you never took the time to let anyone say much of anything.
