Thought my dog was dead this morning

She didn't come barking at the door when I came in, which she always does. I called her, no response. I was getting panicky, and went into my room bracing myself for the worst. Found her having the best sleep of her life on my memory foam mattress topper :lmao: She scared me for a minute there.

My dog does that if I leave the ceiling fan on. She's pretty deaf, so any little background noise at all practically makes it 100%.

She had the fan on, the windows open with a breeze, you can smell the flowers from outside. I felt like I should be there with a fan feeding her grapes.

I wonder if she is loosing her hearing  That would be sad :bawl:

My dog will sleep in her crate on her back with all four legs sticking up in the air like she is hardened roadkill. Freaked me out the first time I walked in seeing that. You can stand right by her crate and yell her name and she doesn't even flinch. Sometimes I think she is really awake with her eyes closed, wondering how long I'll keep calling her before I give up.

My dog does that and she is a 90 pound yellow lab.......her lips hang down and you can see her teeth when she is upside down like that and sometimes her eyes are a little open......Looks really wierd. And she snores really loud at times.

Don't be sad. I have a deaf dog and it has actually brought us closer. I love her that much more for it. She's so cute when I put my "mad" face on and she comes over to apologize to me. :flowers:

A lot of times, as a dog gets old and loses its hearing, they can still hear low pitch sounds (ie the sound of a metal food dish or pots banging) and you can use these sounds to get her attention. Also, practice sneeaking up on her. Have food in your hand and a smile on your face. This way if she startles, you can give her treats and "happy" faces so that startling becomes a positive experience for her. You never want it to be a bad experience because she may bite.
