There is a cat who has lived outside our house for years,I feed her,but she has alwasy been a little skittish. Sometimes she disappears for a week or so,but always comes back. Last night she was being extremely affectionate, more than ever and wound up haing four kittens on my bedroom floor. I plan to try to keep her coming in to take care of them, rather than letting her haul them outside,so they will be tame. I would like to start looking for homes for them-we are keeping mom.I know they cannot leave any time soon,I thought I would just put it out there siince it is never too soon to start planning where they would go,and maybe someone out there would want a kitten they know will be litter trained and tame. Obviously,it will be about ten weeks before they can go,but if you might be interested, please PM me. Two are plain orange tabby, one is black and white, and one is a tortie, but was born with a harelip and cleft palate, which will be addressed at the vet tomorrow am.

Will you be spaying and neutering them before they go to their new homes? If not, why don't you contact a rescue and see about having that done. :yay:

That's exactly what I did with a black cat I found last month. She was pregnant and we got in touch with SMAWL. They can help with a lot of the costs, finding fosters, and permanent homes.

I was actually thinking maybe someone who wanted a pet would be a responsible owner and take care of their own animal when agreeing to take one, rather than expecting me to foot the bill. Wow...no good deed goes unpunished, huh? Not to mention the fact that recues are way overcrowded with kittens in the spring - wouldn't adopting them out myself and the new owner paying their own bills be better for me,them, cat and rescue? It never fails to amaze me that even handouts now are expected to come with handouts.

No..that's the problem. Rescues can assist you with the spaying and neutering and if you contact one, they can help you with the fees and also help you place the kittens.

I understand you are taking in the cat/kittens but no, trusting the new owner to spay and neuter them isn't the best way to go.

Most people that want FREE kittens want just that.

Yeah, like I posted above. She really didn't mean any harm, and the rescues wouldn't take the cats if you were a willing foster. You would contact them, become the official foster, and they would help you make sure the cats are taken care of during your foster care and after they are adopted.

They can offer spay/neuter costs, vaccinations, combo (health) testing, and sometimes even food and litter to the foster (you). When someone comes along that wants to adopt a kitten, they interview the person to make sure they are a fit owner, and have them sign a contract. Should the person ever want to get rid of the cat, the contract states that the person must return the animal to the shelter/rescue to ensure further appropriate care.

Pretty sweet, huh?
