Thunder Shirt

Did not work for us.

Recently heard about the Thunder Shirt from several people and saw a news story about it and it seems that most users think it works. Such was not the case for us. We take our pup with us when we go to visit family in B-more for day trips or long weekends. She has no fear of getting in the car or truck and actually seems anxious to do so. However, the next few hours are filled with nothing but pacing and panting (hyperventilation says I).
We tried the natural products that we got from Pepper's Pet Pantry, also tried Benedryl (at the recommendation of our vet) and neither worked.
Saw an add and watched some videos for the Thunder Shirt so we bought it hoping for at least some level of relief. No joy. Thunder Shirt alone, no joy. Thunder Shirt with meds, no joy. I guess we'll be returning it and asking the vet for some perscription strength meds to help with the issue.

Maybe you should hire a pet sitter to come to your home while you travel? I have several excellent recommendations if you want them; depending on where you live.
Do you take her for short rides in the truck? Do most truck rides end up at the vet? Maybe take her for short rides -if even through the neighborhood. Or to the park or boardwalk for walks and chasing a ball?
You mention pacing- have you tried crating her? Maybe cover the crate with a towel or blanket.
Sometimes Pepper would puke after rides in the car and airplane. Dramimine helped sometimes; and other times it didn't. Often, we would give her Benedryl to make her sleep (prior to knowing about more natural products). I think she was affected by the motion more than being anxious, though.

I take her on a lot of rides and have been doing so since she was a pup. Normally, it's in the back seat of my truck on shorter, more local rides, but she does not seem to mind them at all. At least she does not hesitate to "load up" when I open the door for her. She jumps right in and seems excited to go.
Pet sitter would be great and I'd appreciate a recommendation. However, when we go to Ocean City for a week or away for a weekend, we take her with us so the long car journey is still necessary.
She would need a large crate, which would not fit in the back of either vehicle so that is not an option.

Where do you live? Calvert, southern Calvert, St Marys's? You may pm me if you do not want to share publicly.
