Tiger Swallowtail - Pterourus glaucus glaucus

oooh! Several years ago I found one that looked just like that with the weird eye thing but it was a bright orange color. It looked like a cartoon character. Wonder if it was the same thing?

 That's exactly like the one I found..but mine was orange. Weird little guy, ain't he? He has a "face."

I never saw an orange one. Maybe it was getting ready to "turn". They go from green to brown. (as per the 1st link)

I found one about 17 years ago (no internet) and I've always wondered what it was.

I think the one we found was longer ago than I thought ...I'm sure I'd have run in and "googled" it.

I went to blow off the deck this morning and this little guy must've been attached to one of the leaves. I found it on the bench. This little sucker held on thru a 90mph wind.

I little bit different coloration than the last one.

Oooh- that's a weird looking fellow on your bench. The wife and kid came home yesterday and a big green sucker was on the front porch. It looked kinda like the tiger swallowtail, but no face. We looked it up on a site and it appears to be a luna moth caterpillar. We put it into a box with some leaves and it IMMEDIATELY started spinning a coccoon for itself. I guess we'll find out what it is. I hope it isn't carnivorous when it emerges...
