Tip a Groomer?

Do groomers expect a tips? If so, how much?

TIA

I think that this 'expecting tips' mess is getting ridiculous. If a certain 'tip' is expected than it should be included in the price. I have always thought tips were done by choice when the customer felt the service provide went above and beyond what was expected and already paid for by the agreed on set price.

I would always tip my groomer - it would take her a long time to groom the dog I used to have (Shiloh Shepard, big dog, lots of hair), so I would always tip her 20%.

You don't think she charges more for a dog that requires more work...

I would never EXPECT a tip...I charge what I feel the job is worth..

I always tip you, because I feel you do such a great job. I would not feel good about myself if I left and just paid the bill. You take the extra time to make sure everything is done and my dog is happy, so I feel you deserve extra. JMO

It's nice when someone does tip, but I never look for it, or expect it. I also charge what I feel the job is worth.
I'd rather have my customers tell their friends and neighbors I do a good job, that is better then anything.

I should have added I work in my own business by myself, if you go to a place where your animal is being groomed by an employee I would think a tip is in order, same as a hairdresser.

Exactly! A tip should be a personal choice of the service recipient and not all customers are going to think like you do. Some may consider the extra cologne spritz and bow are part of the service and not above and beyond. By that same token, the service provider does not need to feel obligated to do the extra spritz and bow each time.

Bottom line is the service provider should charge what the service is worth and not expect anything more. If they get a tip... lovely... if not they shouldn't feel slighted.

That's how I always look at it. If the groomer is self employed doesn't all the priced charged go to them? If they're on salary, I will usually tip if I think the service was good.

Yes Spinner and I are self employed...Peeps working at petco usually do a 40/60 or a 50/50 cut..
