You tip when you want to tip and what you want to tip. My father would tip anyone who provided a service or help. I always thought it was great that he did , now I do the same thing . Showing appreciation never hurts .

Exactly how I feel. Walmart use to have people that would pack your groceries and offer to push cart to your car. Gone are those days. Publix is the only one I know that still does that. I appreciated so much I tried to tip the young fella, but he refused it....left me with the feeling I wanted to buy him a house..

Not a chance... They dont get paid waitress/waiter pay, here is 2.13 hr.

Edit... Talked to the bestie, Walmarts policy is No tips are to be accepted at all.
If money is left for an employee to find, it is donated to Children's Miracle Network. Associates face termination if cought accepting tips...

McKay's used to take your groceries out (always tipped). I even had the Sr. McKay rush over and take mine out (didn't tip lol). I've never tipped when I do a pick up. I figure whoever is doing the shopping is not the person dragging the stuff out. Your order could go thru several people before it's ready to be brought outside. Then the person bringing it out is the one who gets the tip.

When, during the Pandemic, it became necessary for those businesses to offer another way for customers to shop - I think that the grocery stores and other stores offering curb side deliveries were hiring people FOR that job (or were utilizing employees they already had) so the employees were already getting paid to DO THAT JOB. The stores are compensating their employees, so I'm not sure why tips should be considered as necessary for the service.

In my job - I get paid to do the job I do. If someone from the public comes into the office and I help them - there's no jar on my counter soliciting for tips.

If a person wants to do that, I guess it's okay, but I wouldn't do it.

My first job real was bagging groceries for Mattingly's IGA at $3.10 per hour. Life was pretty good for a HS kid with good manners. On a typical Saturday it was normal to clear more in tips than salary. I haven't used curbside pickup, but would probably be inclined to proffer a tip, just out of reflex. Many times I've tipped wait staff upwards of 50% or more when my bill was noticeably less than others in my party. They still made sure "everything was okay" each time they made their rounds. Tipping is a personal preference and should be discreet. It's also a hoot to see the wait staff's face when you tip $10 on a $15 bill. They usually think I'm feeble minded and made a mistake.

In Germany, at restaurants, it is considered bad form, rude, and inconsiderate, to leave a tip on the table. The proper way to tip, in Germany, is to personally hand the tip to the waitress/waiter as you are leaving the table. At least that was the standard in the 90's.

I just wanted to make sure that I tipped if the shoppers were paid minimally with the expectation that tips would be a good chunk of their income, as it is for restaurant servers.
