I've been wanting to try out a TiVo for some time, and I finally broke down and ordered one when buy.com was offering the 40 hour model for $89 with free shipping. I placed the order on Wednesday, so I was hopeful that I'd get it in time to play with it over the weekend.
Buy.com shipped on thursday, and on Friday morning, the UPS web site showed it out for delivery from waldorf at 5:30 AM. I had the day off, so I was eagerly waiting for my toy to arrive.
Around 4:00, i called UPS to make sure it was still coming, since the UPS guy usually shows up at my house before then. I was told that residental deliveries go until 7, so I should get it by then.
At 7, when the UPS guy still hadn't come, I check their web site, and when i put in my tracking number, it said that my package had been returned to the warehouse because it had a bad address. I called UPS again, and asked if I could drive to Waldorf and pick it up myself, but they said they weren't open after 7! So because I waited until 7 like they told me to, I was out of luck and would have to wait until mondy to get my package.
At this point, i really wanted my TiVo, for reasons I can't really explain, so I drove to the Waldorf UPS warehouse anyway and....GOT MY PACKAGE!!!
Boy, was I satisfied with myself--I fought the MAN and I won!
But pride comes before a fall, and when I plugged in my new TiVo, it turned out to be defective. I spent hours trying to get it to work, but it was truly dead. The next day, I got an RMA number and sent it back.
What's the moral of this story? I don't have a clue. If you can think of one, please let me know.
