I'm a member of a new organization in Calvert County geared to parents, families, and friends that have children with disabilities. We're trying to get more families involved in our meetings and events for not only the parents but as well as the children.

So as parents what would interest you in coming to one of our social gatherings or meetings? Is there something specific that you want to know more about to help your child with certain needs? As a parent of an autistic child, I want to know more about services that help with social skills and behavior management techniques. I was thinking about a fall event so that it is an opportunity for families to meet and greet.

Please tell me what YOU think

I think that there is a group session through the Calvert County Health Dept in references to families with disabled children. I went to school and got my CNA so that I could help other parents with their disabled children. Maybe just so that they can get out of the house and enjoy themselves knowing that the child is with an experienced mother of a disabled child. I think that we should get together. I would love to meet people that have struggled as I have. I love my son very much and I would love to meet other families.

My problem is that I can not leave my son with a babysitter. The person has to be trained with inserting NG tubes. I really would like to know how I would go about finding someone who could babysit without being so worried about my son. I really need to work full time. Does anyone know of any babysitters that do not have a problem with a child who is on a feeding pump.

Have you looked into state/federal funding programs? I know someone who receives paid day care for their child with a nurse due to the feeding tube. I think medicare pays for this, i'm not 100% on that though.
