Look at the foals in this picture...then imagine two of them in one horse
Reality is that one foal in utero usually robs the other foal of enough space and nutrition to survive. The second foal dies, becomes toxic, and aborts both foals. Scenario two is, one foal is born naturally. the second foal is breech...suffocates during birth. Rarely ( like 1 in 1000) do twins naturally live. So we pinch an embryo at 16 days if two are present so the 1 will survive.
