Toddler Accidentally Killed by Mother

Investigation revealed a woman was moving her 1999 Dodge Durango to another parking space in her driveway.

After pulling her vehicle forward, she began to back up and struck her 18-month-old daughter, who was behind the vehicle.

The child was flown to Children’s National Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

What an absolutely horrible thing to happen

My worst fear has always been backing over a child. I am so cautious that even at 6’ish in the morning, I always have to check behind my car before I get in.

It might be odd, but a little girl was ran over by a car and killed by her mother when I was growing up. My husband said he shares the same horrid fear. Both of us knew the family.

That is so sad. There is no way the mother will get over that. Poor woman. I feel so bad for her.

Same thing happened in Bowie about 12 years ago. Very, very tragic story. Father was moving the vehicle for better drainage when he washed it and ran over his 3 year old daughter. My husband was on the front ramp at the firehouse when they pulled up and the little girl was put into his arms. But it was too late. I don't think anyone can ever recover from something like that.

Terrible Terrible thing to happen to anyone...The same thing happened to a very close friend of mine about 25 - 30 years ago.....She was older than 18 mos. though....Why would anyone leave an 18 MO child unattended? Still a bad thing...

A boy my son when to school with was run over and killed by his uncle (if I remember correctly) in Golden Beach about 5 years ago......the uncle went to move the truck and the boy tried to jump in the bed....

Because sometimes kids run around, they don't always stand still in one place, they don't always follow the rules. This is horrible, and the mother is no doubt devastated. It's always sad to hear about a young life being taken no matter what the cause.
