Toe nails splitting! Help!

My poor baby boy "Onyx" who is 105 lbs. (yes eats very well ) is part black lab and golden retriever... anyway... his poor front toe nails, every once in a while, splits straight up the middle. Not all at the same time of course, but at least one about every 2 months will split. I keep his nails clipped back and he gets supplement everyday in his food. Is there possibly anything out there that I could rub on them to prevent them from cracking? Any feedback would be greatful!

I wonder if dogs can have Biotin? That works for humans. Google Biotin for dogs and find out.

thanks for your recommendation... the supplement I give him has biotin in it! But I will try searching on a biotin oitment!
