What If....Tony Stewart stays with Gibbs until 2009 ends and Mark Martin comes over to Hendrick and drives the 5 car that was driven by Casey Mears full time next season...Then at the end of next season..Martin leaves the 5 car and Stewart joins Hendrick....It could happen..Makes more sense then going to Hass Cnc Racing...Just my opinion!!!

LOUDON, N.H. -- Tony Stewart said Friday the new opening at Hendrick Motorsports could affect his decision about where he drives next season.

Hendrick Motorsports announced that Casey Mears would not return in the No. 5 Chevrolet.

"There's no one in the garage area that's not going to look in that direction," Stewart said. "You've got to look at it. Absolutely."

Stewart has said he is exploring an ownership option to become the co-owner and a driver for Haas/CNC Racing. He was asked Friday when he might have a decision on his future.

"At this morning's announcement [on the No. 5 car], I don't know," he said. "It may be pushed back even more. We'll wait and see. It's however long it takes to make the right decision.

"There's a lot of variables to look at. We've got all the information except what happened today. The good news is we still have time to look at it."

Stewart is under contract with Joe Gibbs Racing through the 2009 season. JGR officials have said they plan to hold Stewart to his contact obligations in the No. 20 Toyota.

Hendrick did not say who will drive the No. 5 Chevy next season, but ESPN.com reported Sunday Mark Martin will join the team and take over for Mears full time in one final attempt to win a Cup title.

Tony ain't staying. He's not happy at Gibbs.

He and Newman are both going to Haas.

Yea, Tony is not staying, and I am sure Gm will buy him out of his contract. I can however see Tony going to the 5 car, and still buying hass to be an owner. Mark Martin should be making his announcement at daytona this week, and then the rest will start to make theirs shortly after.

Mark Martin's Daytona announcement, which SPEED will cover, will be the jumpstart of Silly Season.

I don't expect Casey Mears to land a ride. Quite honestly, Mears isn't Sprint Cup material. I fully expect Mark Martin to go to the 5 car. Also, you got to look at the JR MOTORSPORTS equation. I think Martin goes full-time to the 5 car, and Hendrick starts up a 5th car through JR MOTORSPORTS for Brad Keselowski.

Tony wants to be an owner. He wants to be able to make decisions that are going to help him, and quite honestly, Tony doesn't have any pull at Gibbs anymore. As long as Wild Thing is winning all the races and has the spotlight, everything Joe Gibbs Racing does is going to be about helping him perform.

What I'm interested in seeing is what happens with Joey Logano. Obviously, JGR has more interest in fielding Cup drivers in minor league racing than he does fielding Joey Logano. I wonder if he goes to the #20 car. If he does, I'd expect him to start winning races. Sorry Ky fans, Logano's the better driver. I'm interesting in seeing how Wild Thing will react when he's not the one winning the races, and it'll probably be the same as when he was with Hendricks: :bawl::tantrum:

I think Tony's going to Haas CNC, and from what I've heard, this is imminent.

I wanna see what is going to happen with Logano too. Jeff Gordon has been my favorite since early 90's but I really like Logano too. I heard he was turned down to run at daytona this week in busch, so if Gibbs is going to get him into the cup series, they need to start running him in some more intermediate tracks, and letting him get as much seat time as he can.

On a side note, it looks like juan gained alot of fans this week. I bet they cheer him during driver intro this week.:killingme

This could make a good rivalry. If Montoya had a decent equipment, he'd be running top-tens every week and that would put those two right there week after week.

At least Juan manned up and admitted his part. Kyle tried playing the :angel:I didn't do anything:angel: card like he always does. Montoya's more of a man than Kyle will ever be.:buttkick:

I hope NASCAR does nothing. They let Kyle get away with a lot this year, and they let Kurt get away with those stunts at Daytona this year and Darlington last year.

Damned glad to meet you
Some interesting theories here. Here's my two cents. Martin and Keselowski share the #5 so Keselowski can get some seat time before his rookie season in Cup for 2010. Jr has said he is not interested in fielding a Cup team. Stewart leaves JGR to reunite with Chevy/GM at HaasCNC with heavy backing from Hendrick, aka the fifth car scenario. Logano moves up to the #20 in cup for 2009. Everyone thinks he can do it so why not give it a try. If Newman goes with Stewart, aka the sixth car scenario, Mears goes to Penski. If not, Mears has an open invitation to go back to open wheel thanks to Uncle Rick. Or

Tony will leave JGR and enter into a partnership with Haas , Drive chevy motors from Hendrick , and maybe win 3 races before retiring as driver. Home Depot will stay with JGR with Joey Lagono (SP) as driver of the #20 Home Depot Toyota !

Tony's the face of The Home Depot. They're not going to leave him, believe me. They stuck with him through a lot of crap. I remember there was a time when everyone in the garage, and especially the media, loathed Tony Stewart.

Media's just scared of him. :killingme

Yeah and I'm sure most people thought Budweiser and Dale Jr. would'nt split up either...It all boils down to who has the most money...Home Depot aint that great Budweiser is bigger than they are and look what happened with them...I mean he could do a dual sponsor deal just like the 88 did with Amp and National Guard...I mean nobody thought Bud would get trumped in that deal but some people stepped up to the plate and did it...We will see just how much they will stick with Tony when it comes time to spend that money...This is a Dale Jr. Scenario all over again...Every says Haas Cnc Haas Cnc...Just like everybody was saying...Childress for Jr. Gibbs for Jr. and then BOOM Rick Hendrick steps up...Nobody saw that coming...Just like now they asked Rick Hendrick about Mark Martin and its Deny Deny Deny...They know whats gonna happen....Home Depot will stay at Gibbs...Joey Logano will drive for them.....Tony should ride it out and finish with Gibbs and go to Hendrick when Mark leaves....

Joey Logano's not marketable for The Home Depot. He's marketable to bigger sponsors that can bring in more money.

He's marketable to the video game companies and the technology companies and some of the more mainstream that have otherwise avoided NASCAR for so long.

Either way, Joey Logano's going to win a lot of races. I wish they would keep him in Nationwide a little longer, but that's not gonna happen.

Nowadays, you have to be able to compete in Sprint Cup right out of ARCA. Nationwide's just a big ole' Cup practice session now. And considering Joey Logano dominated that race at Rockingham. He was passing cars on used tires, while everyone else was on new tires ... at Rockingham. :lmao:

I don't give a rats azz who sponsors Logano, the cat can drive a racecar and he's gonna humiliate Kyle Busch and Tony Stewart and all those other cats. :lmao:

They're gonna be :bawl: when they realize they're losing races to an 18 year-old kid who just got out of high school. :roflmao:

What about Newman?

I'll be shocked if Home Depot stays with Gibbs. Who's sponsoring Carl? Who's taking over the 20?

The Tony Stewart domino has fallen, and now Silly Season 2008 gets interesting! :yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

So who sponsors The Biff?

I hope Logano does take over the #20 - that might shut the Wild Thing fans up about how they think KY is the greatest thing to ever climb into a stock car with his 0 championships in Cup or Cup Lites.

Biffle got 3m, they re-up when he did his contract last week. I think Logano will go to the 20, but Gibbs needs to start putting him in all the busch races and run him in some cup stuff towards the end of the year.

They'll have to boot-scoot JJ Yeley out of the 96.

Gibbs needs to man up and put Nationwide Series drivers in the Nationwide Series. :smack::smack::smack:

Him, Childress and Roush are the worst about this. I'm sick of Nationwide being Cup Lites.

Hey J. Aunt Susie sent me this, just in case you didn't catch it the first time.

For all the race fans and anyone who has the time and might want to watch, TNT is going the re-air Lindsay Czarniak's interview and Daytona race story about Roy. It will be on Saturday night on TNT before the Daytona race which shows starting at 6:30 pm. Not sure if the time is accurate. Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer!

Next question is, will roy stay with penske or go with newman? Penske's engineer department is not doing so hot right now.
