Finding a good dog food is so frustrating.
Not if you went to Pepper's. They have sample bags that you can take to see if your dog likes them before spending a lot of money on something he may not like. Pepper's is also very good on keeping up with the recalls, and will notify you via email about any recalls. I will have to admit that when we had our 21 year-old dog, she always ate Ol'Roy. But this was long before these new foods came out. Changing my old dog from the run of the mill grocery store stuff, the the better foods, made her shinier, and more active.

Ok, this is really frustrating. My dog has tried all the different foods...the expensive ones. She wont eat them. She outright refuses....the only foods she will eat are the Ol' Roy foods....and we discovered that after spending lots of money trying different foods, wanting to get her on the best possible foods. She would rather go hungry. She wont even eat dog treats....never has...but she was an abused dog...and has some funny characteristics. She's doing great though, at 11.... and I love her dearly.

:cds: Oh No, thats what Capn. Morgan eats. Her previous owner started her on it and I never changed. I've got to do some research, thanks for sharing that information Ark.

I have one that has refused every "sample" of higher-end dog food as well. Mine prefers Iams and that is that no matter how many times I read the labels of all the foods out loud to her... so Iams is what she gets.

 Mine is the same way, spoiled little girl wont eat the good stuff.

But then she refuses to eat veggies too the vet told me to give her green beans to help her with treats and get her to lose weight. Yeah not a chance.

Although I did just get her to a new brand of dog food from Target I can't remember the name, I did read the label looked healthier to me. And she eats so I wont complain

That's what Maggie and I did this weekend! I personally have never been one to care too, too much about dog food, the family dogs were always hardy labs that ate whatever, wherever. They always prefered cheap food and we gave it, as long as it wasn't horrible with the bad additives. But Maggie seems to have some skin allergies so I've been trying to find a new food for her. She'd previously been on Kibbles 'n Bits and this weekend we tried a Taste of the Wild sample. She loved it! But honestly, I'd probably still keep her on the Kibbles 'n Bits if it weren't for her allergies. She's clearly done extremely well for her age and I'm very positive she's been on cheap food her whole life.

My dog has skin issues also. I recently switched him back to Taste of the Wild Salmon - his skin does best on that food (we tried just about everything else over the past couple years).

:yay: I don't disagree. I've been to Pepper's Solomon's store and think very highly of it. I haven't been in a while, though, as my schedule changed in such a way that it's incredibly inconvenient to be in the area during their business hours. I struggle with conforming to convenience at times. I've even gotten samples from there, too, but I'm not on the emailing list. I'm on Clipper's emailing list and get some interesting information from them.

Mostly I mean the decision making process in general. Grain free or will it be too harsh? Raw food? Made in the US or China? Do dogs really NEED a $50/15lb bag of food or am I a sucker? Fortified? Dry or wet? Small breed, weight control, and/or old dog formula? Allergies? Are they even going to eat this? <-- which happened recently and was a real pain. This company had a recall a decade ago, is that still applicable against their reputation? This company used to be the best but was bought out by a huge conglomerate, can they be trusted or are they a recall waiting to happen?

Any food that has coloring in it is BAD for your Dog. And all of those foods will definitely make your dog poop more :(

 I do that, too! I keep telling mine to eat the freaking peas and carrots kibbles instead of digging them out of their bowl and leaving them on the floor.

Sometimes when I'm cooking I'll give them a vegetable snack like a broccoli or something. Sometimes they eat it, sometimes I find it shredded in their little pet bed or I step on it on the carpet. You didn't even eat the last one, so no, you cannot have anymore.
