1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me.

2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard.

3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings.

4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends.

5. I wish that I had let myself be happier.

What's your greatest regret so far, and what will you set out to achieve or change before you die?

I hate to be an ahole, but I'm living the life now that I always wanted to live. If I die tomorrow, there will be no major items left on my list.

#2 is silly, in my opinion. You work hard in order to have the money to do the things you want to do. Or at least so you can funnel money to your spouse and children so they can do the things they want to do. If you're smart, you work hard in your youth so that when you retire you'll have the dough to enjoy it.

The way I've heard it said, you will regret number 2 if you spent your life working hard to get ahead BUT overlooked the things you might have otherwise enjoyed. It's the kind of regret men often have when they realize they raised two kids but didn't spend any time with them, because they spent all their time working hard to GET them things.

I have an old college friend who, upon realizing this, talked to his wife and pretty much said - let's down size our life. Get a smaller house, take longer vacations with our kids, work closer to home and be a family together. I admire him for this.

I can't believe that no one has figured out that this is an April Fool's joke yet.

Seriously, if this was a real Top 5 Dying Regrets list, wouldn't 'I wish I had won more internet arguments' be on it?

I don't see how it is an April fool's. Those five seem like reasonable regrets.

If you want good April's fool's, a buddy of mine, his wife woke him up early this am, knowing he'd be groggy. He's mid 50's, she early 50's and said, upset, "Dear, I have no idea how this happened but, I am pregnant..." He about stroked out before catching on...

Can't be - article dates to Feb 2012.

Maybe something more like, "I wish I hadn't worked so hard because it kept me from spending more time with my loved ones".....makes more sense.

:like: I do things for me NOW, because when I'm older and retired, I may not be able to. Tomorrow is never promised.
