bout 4:50am everyone in house woke up to hail, really wierd pressure in the house-it was like the wind was blowing very hard through all our open windows at once..(not from west to east, or front of house to back;but blasting IN through all the windows on all sides) pouring rain...it was sudden enough and scary enough we went downstairs and turned on the news to find tornado warnings on channel 5. we r on rt6 right at la plata, bel alton area. any one else experience this? almost wierder was there was no thunder we could hear over the wind whistling through, and i didnt see any lightening either.

I'm in Budds Creek. The feeling woke me up before the alarm. Tornado warning has supposedly expired. Can't wait for the light to see if there was damage.

All I know is it sure was fun driving thru it. Not.
:yeahthat: I was on the Beltway when the down-pour came. It was like driving through a waterfall. Everyone went from 60+ mph to maybe 25-30mph real quick!
:yeahthat: I was on Olivers Shop Rd. around 5:00. Driving along fine clear & dry and suddenly hit a wall of horizontal water. Road was covered with debris. I abruptly slowed down from 50 to 25 and still could hardly see the road. :yikes:

You must have been on the slow side of the beltway if they were only doing 60...

Just a few calls came out on the fire dept side for trees down (maybe half a dozen) across roads, all Charles County and the eastern side, LaPlata towards St Marys, but thats no more then a summertime thunderstorm would do. Im in that area (Oaks Rd county line) and I heard nothing and my windows were open. I was in the shower at 5am though.

It hit our house just about the time you were in your shower. We were watching the news, and I was waiting for the line to pass before getting in the shower. When it hit, it came through fast and heavy! The wind was really howling and the rain was pelting the house. I asked Hubby if we should head for the basement, and what did he do? Went outside to take a look! It didn't last very long. By the time we left for work around 5:30, it had pretty much stopped.

I left at 5:30 also, and other then a little leaf and alot blossom petals in roadway in my development it didnt look bad at all, and it didnt look like alot of rain had fallin. Now on Brandywine Rd just off Prince Frederick Rd there was alot debris in the roadway, leaves, twigs and pine needles it did look like it had taken bigger hit there then around my house.

It must be what woke me up before the alarm too because I NEVER wake up before the alarm! Glad it didn't touch down because I probably would have slept thru it. Just a lot of noisy rain and wind but it was calm when I left around 6. Didn't notice any debris since it was still dark.

I went from La Plata to Mechanicsville via 6 to Hughesville via 5 to Baden via Gallent Green, all from 5AM til 8AM. All is well, few smaller branches and some leaves blowing around but that is about it.

It took you 3 hours to get from La Plata to Baden?!?

I guess it was pretty bad here in Waldorf, not far from 301/Acton Lane. I was at work and was oblivious but the wife reported howling winds and a ton of rain. Came home to see the road covered with cherry blossom petals, yard full of twigs and some bigger branches down in the back yard.

A house next door has been vacant for nearly a year and is up for sale. Its back fence that faces Acton Lane has been blown down and part of the fence that runs along my backyard is leaning precariously. I shot some pics and sent them to the realtor selling the place. Anyone want to give odds on the likelihood that any of that will get fixed?
