Tough

SmallTown

Football season!
It sure is tough these days being a free-thinker.. Not affiliating myself with either political party because I feel each has issues, I get all kinds of flames coming my way (not just here, but everywhere I go).. Whenever I say something about Pro-Choice or Bushisms, I get things like "You stupid liberal!"
When I talk about the death penalty, reducing government handouts, better tax solutions, the stupidity behind some current gun laws, I get "You stupid republican!"

I have even received messages in the past from people asking which side I am on.. I wasn't aware I was supposed to take sides.. I look at the issues one by one and make my decisions that way.
So If people want to continue looking like fools my labeling me as a republican or democrat, go right ahead. People get so caught up in their tight little worlds that they fail to realize that we all have opinions, and they don't all fall precisely into a republican or democrat category.

I made this mistake once with Ken King and was corrected.. So I didn't label him a republican anymore.. But people keep on and on saying I'm either a republican or democrat, and I keep saying I am neither.. Why is that such a hard pill to swallow?

:clap: Labeling is a problem that most humans suffer from and don't even know it. I say I’m a republican only because there are so few Libertarian runners. Nice post!:clap:

Just roll with it

Yes, the issues do matter, and I'd rather be called a stupid republican by a stupid liberal any day of the week.

SmallTown, in the words of David Letterman, you crystallized my thoughts! I posted a few comments on another board, and was called a liberal and a Republican in the space of 10 minutes. I usually tell people I'm a "Republicrat" or a "Bull Moose" as a joke.

Politics has become a team sport, and I blame a lot of that on TV. That medium doesn't encourage lengthy, reasoned debate. It encourages shouting matches and sound bites.

These are usually the tactics of someone who has no coherent argument to make. They can't counter what you have said, so instead they call you names. I'm not as bothered anymore by being called a name in reply to something I said. Because, if calling me a name is the best counter argument anyone can come up with, then I must be right.

I Love Warron's way of thinking! I guess the whole issue comes down to this. Most of us trip through life without a clue. We don't understand others and sometimes we don't understand ourselves. In a nutshell - labels make it easy for people to interact.

Until people accept that they know nothing - at least, not half as much as they think they do... You'll encounter the segregators!!

Yeah, I am a person that people cannot define easily either. I am a registered Democrat (it's a family thing) but I truly split my vote. This time I voted for Ehrlich, McKay, and Fritz. I voted for Anderson, Raley, Brooks, and Mattingly. I use common sense when I decide on the issues, not partisan politics. Labeling is inaccurate and thus should be removed from our politcal system.
