They're puppies.. that is what they do!
Thank goodness they are turning into DOGS - you know, sleeping, moaning blobs who occasionally bark and yawn. I let them out of their crates in the morning before work - which is usually about 4am - and when they were little, that meant little lapping tongues, jumping up and falling down, and following my EVERY SINGLE footstep. It meant if I put out food, they would RUN over even if they weren't hungry. And they couldn't WAIT to go outside. *NOW* - I'm lucky if Jangle does anything but roll over and make dog moaning noises. He gives me this "it's too eeeeaaaarrrr-leeeee" look while he stretches and yawns. Jingle drags herself up for a half awake drink of water.
We're trying to teach them to swim, which of course involves actually GETTING them into water - something they already hate to do - well - unless it's a muddy PUDDLE - then they love it. When we took the pool cover off to dry, we got hit by a downpour, and the cover became Southern Maryland's biggest Slip N Slide - and they *used* it. We had a good laugh watching them dart about and slide in the water, mostly unintentional.
But we took the cover off, because we saw Jingle fall in - *twice*. Each time we got out in time, but we knew it was time to get the pool ready and TEACH THEM TO SWIM - because if they ever fall in when we AREN'T there, I need to know they can save themselves.
So far, every attempt to get them into the pool VOLUNTARILY has failed, and each attempt to get them in INVOLUNTARILY has been met afterwards with dirty (dog) looks. The looks that say "I don't like you - you got water all over me".
