Trading cards

Last night I found a box of trading cards and comic books that I forgot I had. Some of the cards/comic books are from when I was a kid!! I have NO idea what all is here.

Anybody have any ideas on how to identify and evaluate these cards?

There used to be a place on Great Mills Road called "Rona's Sport Cards. I am not sure if they are still around but the last I heard they reopened on Great Mills Road under a new new. I 'think' kinda sorta just accross from Arby's. They might be able to help.

Shoot a little bit of everything. Baseball, basketball, football, NASCAR, Hockey, some complete sets/mini-sets, some gum cards. a whole lot of miscellaneous stuff. The box weighs about 20 pounds I'd guess.

To check out your cards, just buy Beckett magazine for the different sports and it will show you what they are worth.

Are they in good condition, if so, I might be interested in the football ones...

Hehe. I was sitting here racking my brains trying to remeber Beckett's. I kept wanting to say BaseBall Digest but knew that was not right.

Rona's is closed. I think Walmart still sells the Beckett guides, which will give you up to date prices, but you'd have to get a Beckett guide for each separate sport. My suggestion is log on to eBay and see what they are going for there.

They Beckett's Guides helped me out quite a bit. Not only to take a stab at guessing value but came in real handy just for the purpose of inventorying what I had.

Came in handy when the house was broken into and the cards were stolen. Insurance paid over $6K just for the cards.

Side note. The thief had a decent idea what he was taking too. He left the 3 ring binders full of the old but 'not worth much' cards and took all the ones I had set up in the individual hard cases.

But yes, get Beckett's and evaluate your cards. If they are worth something, get serious about keeping them properly. If you honestly suspect they might be worth something. Put them away right now and keep your hands off of them until you are ready to seriously look into their worth. Cards degrade easily.

Most are pristine. I really need to catalog everything in the box. I did a quick check on ebay and two or three that were in hard plastic cases were being bid up to a couple hundred bucks!

I need to pull mine back out. have not looked at them in about 10 years or so. Like I said the jerk stole most of the good ones. But left some that might hold some value to someone trying to complete a team or year.

I think some of my football cards were vintage '59 -'65 or so. Odd cards. Normal width but about 50% taller than average cards.

Most of the cards were given to me when I was about 6. Neighbors kid grew up and left home. His folks cleaned his room out and gave me a bunch of stuff.

Have to get back to ya on that. I just picked a few at random last night. I think I'm going to put them all in a spreadsheet to help me organize them.

I collected comics back in the early 90's. I'm not sure if the magazine is still around but I think it's call Wizard. They had/have prices.

I just went to the Beckett's website and looked for free. I'm not big on sports or cards but it appears they give the value for free. Or at least what dealers are selling them for. My basketball cards are not worth very much. At most $13. :ohwell:

On a similar but other note, I checked ebay to see what this is going for as I have the exact same one unused and more so in the same condition mentioned. It's actually 1982 and not 1985 I guess the seller never played JUMBO (Sunday Comics) or learned to read backwards. I would have thought for something 25yrs old it would be worth more.
