Norfolk Southern train crashed through 134-foot concrete truss bridge beam in Collegedale, Tennessee

A train derailed in Tennessee on Tuesday after smashing through a semi-truck that was hauling a massive concrete beam, injuring two train employees in what officials described as "a disastrous mess."

The truck carrying a 134-foot concrete truss bridge beam was sitting on the tracks in Collegedale when the Norfolk Southern freight train began passing through, the Hamilton County Office of Emergency Management said in a statement.

The truck had been waiting for the light to turn green and tried to clear the tracks when the crossing arms were activated, according to the Tri-Community Volunteer Fire Department.

Video from the scene shows the semi-truck attempting to clear the railroad tracks as the freight train’s horn blares.

My hometown is an old railroad town, both my Italian great grandfathers worked at the railyard.
Tracks are elevated where they pass through town and the roads they cross are underpass.

Jethro's final question at the the sheriffs hiring interview:

Interviewer: What would you do if you saw a truck stalled on the tracks and a train was coming?

Jethro: I would call my cousin Cletus.

Interviewer: Is Cletus an EMT or firefighter?

Jethro: Nope.

Interviewer: Then why would you call Cletus?

Jethro: Cause Cletus ain't never seen a train wreck before.

Never... ever... block a crossing. If he/she was too long to clear a crossing due to a traffic light, he/she should have contacted the local po-po to get the truck safely through the intersection without fouling the crossing.
