Trainers

A message to all- I am looking to take some type of training lessons from a trainer that is a specialist in that type of thing. I know I must sound like a retard, but I am wanting to see what really pulls at me and I would like to specialize in. I have been riding under a basic dressage trainer for 13 years and I am wanting to go higher or to do eventing or something. I would like to stay around southern maryland (I live in Prince Frederick), and I don't have the funds to be paying $100 an hour or anything. I have never shown but I am dying to this spring but I don't want to go out there knowing nothing and making a total fool out of myself. Any input is appreciated thanks!

Ahhhh Florida!
BZ is in Prince Fredrick. She teaches Equitation & Hunter/Jumpers. Showing is lots of fun!! I can't believe you have ridden for 13 years and never shown! I don't know anyone else in your area....sorry. Happy Holidays!

hmm eventing and dressage, that sounds like fun.

BZHorseMomE if you are looking for hunt seat for sure!

Begin again farm, leonardtown = michelle alexander, upper level dressage trainer. she does some dressage shows.
nicki vogel is another upper level dressage trainer that comes to the area occasionally.
steuart pittman in davidsonville, he's an upper level eventer, travels to do some clinics, very personable and reasonable. Horsehugger could tell you about him.
Phyxius knows some dressage/event trainers too = Ray Wheeler i think.
there are several eventers on the board too who could help you out

yeeeeeee!
Vanessa Swartz comes to Hampton Horse Farm in Owings every other week just about. She's a great Dressage instructor. Windsor Manor Stables Home

And I just rode with Ray Wheeler the other weekend, he's great for jumping/eventing. He's in Lothian. He said lessons were $45/hour.

Thanks, I know my old trainer didn't emphazize on showing, but I feel like I may want to! I have heard about Ray Wheeler and I think I may try him and I also know Hampton Horse Farm so I will talk to them as well. I really appreciate all of your help. I don't really have a nice dressage horse right now so I am hestitant to take lessons on my own, I want to go higher and I know I just need patience!!!

Zoooooooom
I ride with both Vanessa Swartz and Ray Wheeler, they're both FANTASTIC! Ray is at Grandview Farm in Harwood. Vanessa owns Windsor Manor in MoCo, but travels to 3 different barns in SoMd on a fairly regular basis. She'll be at Lucky Cricket Farm in Huntingtown this weekend if you want to contact Mary Russell to see if you can come audit/meet Vanessa.

Aside from those already mentioned, there's Sam Allan in Brandywine and Nina Holm in Harwood (both eventers and both nice).

Steuart is also good, but I may be just a tad bit biased since I'm married to him  You can see more about him here: Dodon Farm: Lessons and Clinics
He does clinics down south every once in awhile - when there are any coming up, I'll let you know.

Hi there -
I hope your lessons were great today! Ray and Beth are some of the nicest people in Maryland Eventing - and there are several events that simply would not come together if it weren't for the countless hours they volunteer!

I don't know Samantha Allen personally, but Jim Wofford reccommends her for beginning eventers in the Southern Maryland area. I don't think you could find a better reference! You could also check out Cherie Chauvin of Golightly Sport Horses - She's also a student of Jim Wofford and teaches mostly in the Upper Marlboro/Brandywine area - she's a bit unique though, because she's one of the few instructors willing to come to you as her schedule allows.

And Jumps - try North American Fence and Supply Co., Dower House Road, Upper Marlboro. They usually have plain standards and poles which are of good quality (unpainted) and are the cheapest I've found.
Good Luck & Have Fun!!

Fallon I'm really glad I was able to work with you before I head off to Florida in the morning.:dye: Keep working on what we did today. Your Big Paint guy is really great and look forward to working with your other horses. Can't wait to work with you next week. I'll have my Cell so give me a call if you need to. Take Care. :howdy:
