Tramadol or Deramaxx

Pup is on Tramadol now for inflamation/pain, but stopped eating them out of the pill pockets. Vet provided Deramaxx if Tramadol didn't work, so I have given him these and they are chewable and he actually ate 2 so far. Don't know if they will help the same way Tramadol seemed to as it is too soon to tell but wondering if anyone has any experience with either of these meds. Thanks in advance!

Our golden was on Deramaxx last year after she was diagnosed with a torn cruciate ligament, and before her surgery. Within two days of starting Deramaxx, she had stopped eating, and subsequent pre-op bloodwork showed kidney failure, and once that was remedied, her liver started to shut down. Thankfully she made it, but it cost us a pretty penny getting that straightened out. I would also recommend reading the warning labels - we didn't until after the fact and both liver and kidney failure are a possible side effect. Nobody would point the finger at Deramaxx as the cause, but we're convinced it couldn't have been anything else. I'd ask your vet if that level drug is necessary. If it is, keep an eye on your pup! Good luck!

My 11 year old Shepherd mix was on Deramaxx for 3 months with no problems and all of a sudden she started limping again, quit eating and has had a fever for one month. We have had a ton of testing done with no answer to the problem. I was also thinking kidney/liver failure but the vets don't seem to think so. I'm not sure if it was the Deramaxx or not. Is there not a safe pain killer for them?
