GOVERNOR HOGAN: Good morning. What an exciting day.
Thank you very much, Jeff. It’s great to be here with all of you for these incredibly exciting announcements about Maryland’s energy future. Recently, a major national survey named Maryland as the single most improved state for business in America, based in large part on our relentless focus on infrastructure, technology, innovation, and manufacturing. And all of those things are on display here today as we celebrate two great companies coming together to forge an innovative, transformative, and forward-thinking partnership.
Launched just ten years ago, U.S. Wind has become the leading offshore wind energy development company and expanded its footprint here in Maryland, creating thousands of jobs and investing more than $75 million in our ports. Tradepoint Atlantic’s revitalization of Sparrows Point into one of North America’s most strategic and versatile commercial gateways has been a shot in the arm for the Baltimore region and the entire state, bringing more than 10,000 jobs back to the area, along with billions of dollars in economic impact. Offshore wind presents a once-in-a-generation opportunity for the State of Maryland to expand and diversify our economy and our energy portfolio. The job creation potential and associated economic benefits for the broader supply chain of offshore wind development is an absolute game changer. In fact, offshore wind commitments made by Atlantic states from Maine to North Carolina have the potential to support up to 86,000 jobs, $57 billion in investments, and provide up to $25 billion in economic output by 2030.
That’s why last fall, Maryland was proud to join North Carolina and Virginia in establishing a bold regional compact for offshore wind energy resources. To give us a strong foothold to attract major projects just like the one we’re excited to be here announcing today. For six and a half years now, our state has been leading the charge when it comes to supporting responsible, clean, and renewable energy projects. We’re proud to continue setting an example for the nation of strong environmental leadership. With one of the most skilled workforces in the nation, one of the best ports and marine facilities in America, and with our administration’s continued commitment to clean and renewable energy, I’m confident that Maryland will continue to be a prime location for offshore wind development. And I just want to say thank you to U.S. Wind, to Tradepoint Atlantic, because your success truly is Maryland’s success.
Congratulations to everyone who’s been involved in making this exciting day possible.
Thank you so much.
