Transporting Propane Tank

Hello all, I was considering getting two 100 pounds propane tanks to take and have filled myself to save some money on tank rental/propane cost. My question is do any of you transport your own 100 pound tanks and how? I though I read somewhere that you had to have an approved rig to transport these tanks. Any truth to that?

edit: It's being used for a wall mount propane heater.

I have about 6 propane tanks (100 lb) (24 gal)

I usually just put 3 or 4 empty tanks in the back
of my pickup and secure them so they don't roll around.

I Take them to 3 mules or 3rd base have them refilled.
price fluctuates like gas or fuel oil.

Last fill ups were about 2 weeks ago. $3 per gal.

purchased tanks from Lowes (around $97.00 per tank)
