I heard that... they started with "traumatic injury", and I'm thinking the worst, hand chopped off, etc... then "fishhook in toe". I had to laugh, although I'm sure she isn't...

I just heard it on the scanner? Why the delay? Confused about that. I'm getting the scanner thru SOMD.

Fishhooks can be nasty

Fishhooks can be nasty, I've been there but wouldn't consider it traumatic even to a 4 year old.

I've got a delay with the scanner online. I have a fire pager and a regular scanner that I don't like because it doesn't pick up very well at my house. The online scanner is delayed about 1 minute behind the regular scanners and pagers.

Concerning the delay. We are aware of it. I am not going to spend too much time on it right now because there are a couple other projects that I would to bring into play concenring the feeds. These may very well require a change to the way we do things so no sense getting too side tracked trying to fix this at the moment.

No biggie, just checking cause I had seen the post. You do great work with keeping this all up, and David as well.

Yea, as long as I have my pager and hear my department's calls when they come out, it's no big deal to me.

I'd say it depends on the size of the hook. Did you see "The Perfect Storm"?

I saw the thread title, hovered and got the 'four year old female' part and thought, "Oh no!!!" Glad it wasn't more serious, poor little thing.

In My Opinion
as a parent I can tell you that it is more traumatic to the parents than it is the child.
unless they are from inner city baltimore

I certainly hope this is a bad enough injury to warrant an ambulance. I hate people who call for one because the kid has a cold. Or you dont have a ride of your own. I mean, come on, its a fish hook, Im sure it hurts but an ambulance. Damn ghetto people.

Last year a man up around Mechanicville called an ambulance because he had an appointment at the Hosp. that day for some sort of testing. It wasn't so bad that he called, I just thought it a bit odd that they actually dispatched for the ambulance and indeed sent one.

To me traumatic injury would be an injury (crush, amputation, etc.) that would require the Trauma Center. I really doubt a fish hook would need to go to the trauma center to be removed from a toe.

Jeff, I also have heard the calls for people needing to go to the hospital for appointments. I've also heard of calls where the people get a ride to the hospital and then just leave, they only wanted a ride to Prince Frederick so they could get a pack of smokes or some beer. Have no idea how they get back home, ambulance will only take you one way. :lmao:

Traumatic injuries are basically any injury that did not have a prior history. Like cuts, broken bones etc. It think Chronic means there is a history behind it. Sickness, heart disease etc. I sure am sure someone with some EMT background will correct me if I am mistaken. That is just my understanding. I guess it's hard for the dispatchers to get a good read on some of these types of calls. I am sure sometimes people can be very convincing.

Gonna see even more of that what with gas prices what they are.

As a side note I still have dreams of getting fish hooks stuck in me. Happened a lot as a kid. Never got a ride in an ambulance though. :kickingdirt:

I was in an ambulance once in Leonardtown but only because I was forced. My doctor called them. I said I could drive there but doc said not if I die first. I guess my BP was in the immediate stroke level. So I went. I was embarrassed because I didnt think I needed it.
