There is not one shred of evidence that he was doing anything other than walking. This includes the recorded coversation of Zimmerman describing why he was suspicious of Trayvon. Even when his dead body was searched the found nothing but items that back up the story that he had run to a convenience store to get snacks for the basketball game he and his brother were watching.
Perhaps my tone is not coming though as intended in the written word.
My position from the beginning is that this is a bitter fruit, the inevitable, predictable result of a failed criminal justice system that engenders no trust from anyone. Blacks think, often rightly, that it is stacked against them. Others think, often rightly, that it often doesn't punish the guilty. This leaves the innocent young black man vulnerable. This leaves everyone else feeling fearful and fear is dangerous.
It looks very much like this kid did nothing wrong and was victimized by an over zealous neighborhood watch dog type. Maybe even murdered. However, it isn't that simple and these people, both of them, are, in the end, symptoms of the larger problem. As such, people with their selective, agenda driven slices of the story owe it to us, we, the people, to address the facts. If the fiancee did not live in this gated community, what was he doing there? Was he trespassing? I've never hears of a convenience store being in a gated community. Maybe this one was? If this was a short cut, it very well may have been trespassing. That used to be against the law.
So, a confrontation ensues and a young man is dead. It was not because he was black. It was because he was black and a young male and we have a criminal justice system that makes all young black males suspect by falsely accusing some and not punishing others.
