I had it done. It makes your foot very rigid, meaning limited mobility. Even though I know the surgery was necessary sometimes I wish I hadn't had it done. For quite a few years I had to sleep with a pillow under my foot if I slept on my side because I had to keep the foot perfectly straight/flat when it was on its side or it was really painful. Good luck to you and if you have any specific questions feel free to ask.

I need all the information I can get.

How long has it been since you had your surgery and do you still have swelling?I understand that you can have pain and swelling for years after, not to mention more problems with the joints due to the fusion of the ankle.

I am scared to have it done for the very same reason you have mentioned
I don't know if it is the right thing to do or not.

I had mine done in 1987. I don't have swelling but there is absolutly no movement side to side in it. It is very rigid. Honestly, if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't do it. The bad thing with it is, I have fractured the foot and when I did, the "whole" foot fractured because it is like it is one entity now. It is a lot to consider.

Looking at my foot now, after having the surgery, it is just as "flat footed" as it was before, it changed nothing! I would be asking some hard questions to that doctor and want hard evidence that it will "fix" the "flat foot pain/problem"....

Thank You

Thank you for the information it has helped me alot I have done research
on this surgery and from what I have read the after effects and other complications that it can cause doesn't seem to be worth it.I will deal with the pain.

I would still like to gather as much information as possible and the best way for me to do that is by speaking to someone who has already been through it thier self.

I had some back surgery back in the 90's. I did a lot of research on it first and heard all kinds of horror stories. The worse stories came from fusions rather than laminectomies [I probably spelled that wrong].

Anyway... I had the laminectomy where they took a little bit of the disk off to move it off the nerve that was causing me so much pain....

It worked like a charm.... I could not believe the difference the very first day?

I really hope that whatever you choose to do... that you get the relief from the pain and you heal quickly.... :howdy:

Thank You my problem is that I had my right foot operated on in 2007.I went for a second opinion before having the surgery and both specialist told me the same thing. What was done is the Heel bone was cut off and moved to get it in line where it should have been and a Tendon transfer was also done at the same time.I didn't get the results I was told I would get.

I had knee surgery in Dec. and that specialist said the feet are affecting the Knees he showed me pictures taken during surgery and you can see the bone wearing looks like paint peeling off a car.

I have gone to Two differant specalist and they both say that the first surgery should had never been done and that the Tripple Arthrodesis should have been done 3 years ago. When it comes to fussing joints, taking bone out of the knee to put in the foot, and lenghting the Arcillisis tendon then I am afraid that may not work either and then what am I left with?

That's why I figured that maybe I could get feed back from other people who have had this same surgery and see what they could share with me.
