Truck Back-Up Camera

Would like to install a decent, but not expensive, back-up camera on the truck.
The only purpose would be for hooking up the trailer.
Found a few on-line, but does anybody have any recommendations?

Any of them will give a decent result. We have a Pyle one installed on the Jetta which has worked flawlessly since install about 2 years ago. The first one I bought from a guy on eBay and had problems with it not actually being waterproof. Replaced with a newer version which had worked fine. Also installed a wireless one on my old camper, it was one that required a hole to be drilled.

The ones we bought I looked for reviews to gauge reliability and quality. I tried to go with a wider field of vision and higher definition.

Same camera that's in the Jetta. For the price it does a good job. I cannot say much about the included screen. It is wired into the Head Unit that I installed. On my truck I use a rearview mirror monitor.

For hooking up your trailer it should be fine. The lens is also movable up and down. The night vision works fairly well too, although it can be a bit grainy at night.

Thanks for the info.

I will say that on the Jetta, there is the overhang piece for the plate lights, and trunk lock/handle. I cannot comment on the water resistance on something like a truck without the overhang.

I was thinking on installing the camera on the license plate.

Yeah its installed on the license plate. Just saying the trunk lid has an indent for the license plate which helps to block rain. Most trucks from what I have seen has the license plate in the center of the bumper, which would not have anything above it to help keep rain off.

It should not be an issue as it gets hit pretty good with the pressure washer when I wash the car.

Just looked at the truck. License plate is completely exposed.
I could try and waterproof it with some heat shrink.

I am also thinking about a side mount camera on the bumper.

To align the hitch ball to the trailer?

You'd be amazed how much difference a low quality camera can make. Like backing through shade and sun.. seeing the trailer and ball from further away...

And this one, unlike the OEM camera can be used ti check trailer loads while driving down the road

I am looking for something simple so the wife can hook up the trailer (horse trailer) by herself.
