UKRAINE: Zelensky lied to Vice President Vance and Secretary of State Rubio. Trump is now clear he would be an unreliable partner and is insisting on free and democratic elections in Ukraine. Zelensky cannot be trusted. Even Biden admits that.

NBC News chronicled one such episode in October 2022.

“Biden had barely finished telling Zelenskyy he’d just greenlighted another $1 billion in U.S. military assistance for Ukraine when Zelenskyy started listing all the additional help he needed and wasn’t getting,” the network reported. “Biden lost his temper, the people familiar with the call said. The American people were being quite generous, and his administration and the U.S. military were working hard to help Ukraine, he said, raising his voice, and Zelenskyy could show a little more gratitude.”

During the interview, Rubio continued to frame Zelensky as a hostile foreign actor for denying U.S. access to his nation’s rich mineral deposits after American taxpayers funded Ukraine’s defense.

“We explained to them, ‘look we want to be in joint venture with you not because we’re trying to steal from your country, but because we think that’s actually a security guarantee,” Rubio said.

Here are a couple of highlights:

In describing why he thinks Pres. Zelensky was in the wrong on this affair, SecState Rubio stated:

You guys only saw the end. You saw what happened today. You don't see all the things that led up to this. So let me explain. The president's been very clear, he campaigned on this. He thinks this war should have never started. He believes, and I agree, that had he been president, it never would have happened. Now here we are, he's trying to bring an end to this conflict, we've explained very clearly what our plan is here, which is we want to get the Russians to the negotiating table, we want to explore whether peace is possible.
They understand this. They also understand that this agreement that was supposed to be signed today was supposed to be an agreement that binds America economically to Ukraine, which to me, as I've explained it, I think the president alluded to today, is a security guarantee in its own way, because we're now involved, it's us, it's our interests.

Stephen Miller Reveals What Triggered the Oval Office Showdown with Zelenskyy

Miller explained that the confrontation stemmed from Zelenskyy's failure to show proper appreciation for America's substantial support of Ukraine. "The only reason that Zelenskyy has a country, that Zelenskyy is in power, is because of the United States," Miller asserted.

During the Oval Office meeting, tension erupted when Zelenskyy suggested that America would "feel it in the future" if support for Ukraine waned, prompting Trump to erupt: "You don't know that. You don't know that. Don't tell us what we're going to feel. We're trying to solve a problem. Don't tell us what we're going to feel."

Miller highlighted Americans' economic sacrifices in the Ukraine conflict: "Americans have suffered economically funding this war now for years, American security has been degraded, our stockpiles depleted, our ability to project power in other regions of the world negatively affected to protect and defend Ukraine."

The confrontation reached a boiling point when Trump accused Zelenskyy of "gambling with World War III" and Vance repeatedly demanded that the Ukrainian leader express gratitude.

This morning, Seeking Alpha ran a story headlined, “U.S. to cancel 83% of USAID programs, Marco Rubio says.” The final numbers are in. Early this morning, Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced that 5,200 USAID contracts were cancelled, with only about 1,000 surviving DOGE scrutiny.

image 4.png

The “quasi-independent” USAID agency is done. The remaining “aid” contracts will now be administered directly by the State Department, where they will be subject to FOIA’s and normal government transparency.

Thanks, DOGE!

This story is much bigger than saving money, axing graft, and ditching wasteful, multi-million-dollar LGBTQ puppet shows and Indian sex-change clinics. USAID was, by its own charter, aimed at transforming the rest of the world into a progressive utopia— whether citizens of other countries wanted it or not. Canceling 83% of USAID is encouraging news for the rest of the world who might now get 83% more sanity and peace.

I guess they figure that bringing democracy to the rest of the world hasn't ever worked, so they might as well try something else.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced on Wednesday that he's going above and beyond to continue protecting the free speech of every citizen in the United States — something that State Department wasn't doing previously. As a matter of fact, the State Department’s Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (R/FIMI) had "actively silenced and censored the voices of Americans they were supposed to be serving" — particularly conservatives — and we were paying at least $50 million per year for it to do so.

But Rubio has now shut it down, placing 30 full-time staff members on leave, eliminating all 50 full-time staff positions, and letting Congress know that it no longer exists, so there's no need to keep pumping taxpayer dollars into it. According to the MIT Technology Review, "...employees at R/FIMI received an email, inviting them to an 11:15AM meeting with [Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs Darren] Beattie, where employees were told that the office and their jobs have been eliminated."

Rubio issued the following statement on "Protecting and Championing Free Speech at the State Department":

Freedom of speech and expression have been a cornerstone of what it means to be an American citizen. For centuries, the United States served as a beacon of hope for millions of people around the world. Over the last decade though, individuals in America have been slandered, fired, charged, and even jailed for simply voicing their opinions.
That is not an America our Founding Fathers would recognize.
It is the responsibility of every government official to continuously work to preserve and protect the freedom for Americans to exercise their free speech. That is why today I am announcing the closure of the State Department’s Counter Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (R/FIMI), formerly known as the Global Engagement Center (GEC). Under the previous administration, this office, which cost taxpayers more than $50 million per year, spent millions of dollars to actively silence and censor the voices of Americans they were supposed to be serving. This is antithetical to the very principals we should be upholding and inconceivable it was taking place in America.
That ends today. Under the administration of President Trump, we will always work to protect the rights of the American people, and this is an important step in continuing to fulfill that commitment.

Rubio: To Protect Free Speech, The Censorship-Industrial Complex Must Be Dismantled

Over the past half-decade, bodies like GEC, crafted by our own governing ruling class, nearly destroyed America’s long free speech history. The enemies of speech had new lingo to justify their authoritarian impulse. It was “disinformation,” allegedly pushed by nefarious foreign governments, that was the No. 1 threat to “our democracy.” To protect “our democracy,” this “disinformation” had to be identified and stamped out.

GEC’s history shows the pernicious way Washington turns laudable public goals into a means of entrenching its own power and rolling back the freedom of regular Americans. GEC began life in 2011 as the Center for Strategic Counter Terrorism Communications (CSCC). CSCC’s purpose was to monitor the narratives of Al Qaeda and other terrorist organizations and advise the American government on what counterterrorist narratives to use in response.

But this worthy purpose didn’t last long. In early 2016, the Obama administration renamed CSCC the “Global Engagement Center,” stripping away the explicit focus on international terrorism. Then, after Donald Trump’s historic victory in 2016 but before he took office, GEC’s mission was expanded to cover any and all “foreign state and non-state propaganda and disinformation efforts.”

This pivot was no accident. Obama’s man in charge at GEC, Rick Stengel, touted his efforts to protect “democracy” while redefining it so that “democracy” came to mean silencing the part of the electorate he doesn’t like.

In 2019, Stengel directly equated President Trump’s campaign with foreign and terrorist propaganda, writing, “Trump employed the same techniques of disinformation as the Russians and much the same scare tactics as ISIS.” That same year, Stengel wrote an entire article about “why America needs a hate speech law.”

“I’m not against propaganda,” Stengel once said. “Every country does it, and they have to do it to their own population, and I don’t necessarily think it’s that awful.”

All too many abuses of trust that occurred at the GEC seemed to reflect Stengel’s dark founding vision.

In 2020, a coronavirus from a Chinese lab swept the globe, and GEC popped up with a report warning that a “Russian disinformation apparatus” was behind public speculation that the virus was an “engineered bioweapon” or that it existed due to “research conducted at the Wuhan institute.” GEC tarred not only specific claims as foreign propaganda but also specific users. It created lists of thousands of accounts that were accused of being foreign propaganda vectors simply for sharing articles or even following certain accounts. These lists were sent to social media companies for “review,” but nobody was fooled — the purpose of this was to pressure private companies in the direction of more censorship and less free speech.

GEC was an enthusiastic participant in the Election Integrity Partnership (EIP), an infamous group established under constitutionally questionable conditions to monitor “disinformation” about the 2020 election. The EIP pretty much exclusively singled out accounts and narratives associated with President Trump and his supporters and, in fact, directly flagged President Trump’s tweets, along with his family members and friends of the administration.

🔥 The Times reported that the newly announced State Department overhaul is part of a larger Trump initiative “to reduce and reshape the government to a degree unseen in generations.” And they never saw it coming. Secretary Rubio said Foggy Bottom’s new comprehensive plan re-focuses the agency on “America’s core national interests.” In other words, transgender musicals and swanky Davos conferences are out.

In last week’s announcement, Rubio cited one example: the “bureau for democracy, human rights and labor.” He explained it had become a vendetta platform that left-wing activists used to wage soft wars against conservative foreign leaders, such as in Poland, Hungary, and Brazil. Another awful example, the “bureau of population, refugees and migration,” sent millions of taxpayer dollars to NGOs that had promoted mass migration all over the world, including “the invasion on our southern border.”

The Times struggled to find a downside. “Some State Department veterans,” the Gray Lady painfully admitted, “have long conceded that the department, with its many offices and tens of thousands of employees in Washington and overseas, would benefit from judicious streamlining.” The only concrete complaint it could muster was that DOGE employee Edward Coristine, 19, whose gamer handle is “Big Balls,” is currently assigned to the State Department.

image 9.png

Democrats can’t stand the idea, of course, because Trump. The House Foreign Affairs Committee’s top Democrat, Gregory W. Meeks (D-NY), complained without evidence that the restructuring had “less to do with streamlining the State Department and more to do with eviscerating American soft power.” Or maybe it’s both streamlining and eviscerating. Just saying.

Dozens of masked anti-Israel protesters arrested after storming Columbia library — and Rubio vows to review visa status of ‘pro-Hamas thugs’

The raucous demonstrators then donned keffiyeh headscarves and beat drums while clapping to chants of “Free, free Palestine.”

Photos obtained by The Post show protesters defacing the library walls, hanging Palestinian flags and marking tables with colored tape. Other images show about half a dozen security guards forming a line opposite a much larger group of protesters.

Protesters scrawled “Columbia Will Burn” on a glass case inside the library, according to a photo shared online by a social media account run by Jewish and Israeli students at the school.

“Public Safety is currently clearing out all other rooms on the lower floors of Butler Library. Why are the protestors able to continue disrupting the basic function of our university while all other students have to pay the consequences?” Middle East studies major Eden Yadegar wrote on X.

At least two public safety officers were injured by the mob’s surge into the library, and officials believe some of the demonstrators were not affiliated with the elite school, she added.

“Requesting the presence of the NYPD is not the outcome we wanted, but it was absolutely necessary to secure the safety of our community,” Shipman said.

“Disruptions to our academic activities will not be tolerated and are violations of our rules and policies; this is especially unacceptable while our students study and prepare for final exams. Columbia strongly condemns violence on our campus, antisemitism and all forms of hate and discrimination, some of which we witnessed today.”

At one point, protesters wanted to leave the library willingly, but were not allowed to by school safety officers without showing their IDs, the international student said.
