Why shouldn't he, NTSB and the FAA are federal entities. Neither seems willing to issue the order to ground the fleet as they continue to look into the causes of the two recent tragedies, almost every other nation in the world has barred their operation. How many more people should die while awaiting the agencies responsible to issue the order?

Are we sure a tweet from the president is a grounding? Nothing from the FAA yet.

Well, that makes sense.

We know the cause of the recent crashes.

The Max 8 was redesigned and the larger engines moved forward. This tends to cause the nose to point up, which of course can cause stalls. The MCAS (Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System) corrects by pointing nose down with no input from the pilot.

Boeing and carriers did a terrible job at disclosing this and training pilots, and no one thought that automaton that can put plane into a nose dive was a bad idea.

Pilots can disable auto trim stabilizers and manually trim on the yoke. In the Lion Air case, we know the pilot was yanking on the yoke, which led to panic and the wrong steps being taken subsequently.

Well, the US aviation industry performs much better than the Third world at maintaining them.

But being the democrats are currently in charge of funding, we should expect third world status in 3, 2 1...

Considering that they haven't read the Ethiopian data recorders yet, how do we know the cause of that crash? As to Lion Air, the pilots actions were contributing factors, but wasn't it the AOA sensor that was faulty that led to the MCAS commands creating the situation?

Waiting for the outrage mob to start screaming, "That's not his job!" When they were screaming, "Why hasn't he grounded these death traps yet?", just hours ago.

That's what I remember. AOA sensor/software quirk.

It wasn't a tweet, you twit, it was a televised announcement where I saw him make this "emergency declaration".

You SAW him make an "emergency declaration??? DID YOU LISTEN???? (obviously not)

Trump did not decide unilaterally to ground the planes you illiterate moron. He announced an FAA decision to ground the planes....not HIS decision.

Here is the video: https://apnews.com/2b26b0e35dc64e35838958a13fac9d94

Here is the FAA statement: https://www.faa.gov/news/updates/?newsId=93206

Well you stupid tw@t, the twit said it was a tweet, it wasn't. Go twot your horn elsewhere.

Now to the rest of your idiotic rambling, the President made his declaration/order about an hour before the FAA made its announcement (and after they had been non-decisive since the latest crash to take any action at all). Just follow your own link you dumb bitch. It was his decision and after making it his minions followed his orders.

It was not the president’s decision. It was Boeing’s decision in consultation with the FAA and NTSB.

Even better, that cotton-candy haired buffoon was on the horn with Muilenburg this morning, after which he tweeted that the aircraft was safe.

What a complete moron!

This whole thing is unfortunate. Lion Air has a safety record that leaves something to be desired. Even to the point that Lion Air was banned from European Air space for a period of time. Haven't looked into Ethiopian Air yet. I think these two tragedies were caused by more than the MAX's avionics but I think Trump was right to ground them. At least until we can be sure. I've been a passenger on a 737 MAX 8 twice in the last six months. Both times were on Southwest.

Regarding the Lion Air incident... apparently the same plane had the same anomaly happen the day before. A ride-along pilot diagnosed the issue and disabled the AOA/stall sensor before they completely lost control.

FBI now involved in the plane certification process.

I heard that too. Also heard that Lion Air might have been using second-hand parts.
