However, the SS does not have to charge their food to the lodging space - again, this is given in the form of meal expense per diem. A flat rate, based on location, to the individual.

I would suspect, based on knowing the difference between commercial rates and the rates government will pay, the Trump organization is actually losing money they could otherwise charge full-paying guests whenever there is a stay at a Trump location.

For Obama, a man whose highest paycheck prior to presidency was his wife's at about $317,000/year (in a job that was so important it was no longer needed once her husband was no longer a State Senator and she has never once claimed an accomplishment on), I think $3500 (which is, as you say, quite the lowball for $70K in purchases) is worth getting, yes. And, probably about what Trump spends on dinner with friends.
