Ken Schram: Someone should be fired | KOMO-TV - Seattle, Washington | Ken Schram

Their combat ribbons and medals set off the alarms.

So what does the TSA screener do?

He has the soldiers strip off their uniforms - in front of everyone - down to their tee shirts, pants and socks.

Is it so hard to hire intelligent Americans to be TSA workers instead of third world idiots? Shouldnt there be some sort of intelligence screening for these jobs? Thank you Lord ,I dont have to fly and put up with this crap.

Airport security is a joke and should be completely removed. It is one of the largest false securities in the entire world.

Yeah no self respecting terrorist would ever dress up as a U.S. soldier. Oh wait, I saw similar strategies in at least 10 World War II movies. I'm sure I may have read of a terrorist living as an American in at least 3 Tom Clancy novels.

I recall a National Guardsman (before TSA existed but after 9/11) giving me the third degree at Reagan National. I was wearing my crackerjacks and in the process of a PCS move. I was carrying alot of baggage. I did as the gentleman asked and he allowed me to move on after taking a look through all of my bags. HE had a semi automatic weapon in his hands. TSA's do not carry weapons but depend on airport security. Do as they say and all will be fine. They are just doing their job.

Someone should be fired

He's right, and the person who should be fired is Ken Schram. The TSA guy was doing what I would expect him to do. I have set off teh security alarms with all the metal in my uniform too. Didn't phase me one little bit to take off the blouse and the belt (already took off my shoes. They have metal shanks so would have had to take them off even if not everybody else did.)

This is a liberal-progressive television commentator trying to voice false outrage at the federal government. He has no feeling for the military members, it's purely a "Blame Bush" tirade in disguise. These guys were honor guard members whose medals won't come off like the standard GI's, they would have had to take off the blouse no matter what.

What a bunch of Liberal :bs:

I don't want the screener to make judgement calls, deciding who to let pass and who to look harder at. That is a skill that cannot be taught quickly and effectively. I would much rather see the screener following the rules as they are given to him without wavering. You set off the alarms, you get searched. No questions.

Besides, doesn't this prove to the turban wearing dude who is whining about discrimination that the screening is for everyone? That his claims of discrimination are bogus?

He has the soldiers strip off their uniforms - in front of everyone - down to their tee shirts, pants and socks.
So what?

Airport security is a joke. Look back a few weeks ago at the TSA checkpoints that failed to detect weapons and explosives in CARRY ON baggage. And the real kicker, the TSA agents who were doing the security check leaked it out that they were going to be doing spot checks.

Airport security needs to be removed. Do you have any idea how much money in taxes is allocated to it? Name one other area of security like that. Sporting events with 70+ thousand people, concerts, mass transit like subways and metros, cruise ships? Nope. None of them have this type of security.

How hard would it have been to just have them waive their wand over the soldiers chest? Workers at airports do not go through that type of security checks each time they show up at work, so don't use the 100% checked excuse. When a police officer is escorting an burrial detail through an airport, common sense needs to be applied.

If there was still an issue, these soldiers deserved some privacy to remove their uniform.

Liberal bs? What are you talking about? This guy is standing up for the military members. How does this have anything to do with President Bush at all? Wow.

Last, what kind of special medals don't come off like "standard GI's"? I served 9 years in the Marines and have never heard of such a thing.

"We can't keep weapons out of prisons. How can we hope to keep them out of airports?" poses Bruce Schneier, a prominent security expert and the author of "Beyond Fear."

"Exactly two things have improved airplane security since 9/11," Schneier says. "Reinforcing the cockpit door and teaching passengers that they need to fight back. Everything else has largely been a waste of money."

He is not standing up for military members at all. You're a fool if you think so.

You served 9 years as a grunt.... I'm guessing you weren't in any special details that required additional uniform requirements. Go to any military uniform catalogue and you will find what this person is talking about.

Sure, jobs are good but not when my tax dollars go to a useless program. We might as well use federal funds to bring back full service gas stations and do away with soda machines while we are at it.

So why don't we have all of this security in our everyday life then? No stadium security, no metro security, etc.

Think of all of those jobs.

Calm down, lets discuss this like adults. No need to start throwing insults around.

I served 9 years as an aircraft mechanic and as a Crew Chief on KC-130s. Not all Marines are grunts. I am well versed in the Marines uniform manual. What are your military credentials?

It's not the greatest but it is what the general population will allow. Go to Europe or S. America and check out their security.

In my opinion, we should have highly trained soldiers with top of the line weaponry guarding our airports but it is people like you who argue that their rights are being infringed upon. I have a right to be safe and secure. Take your liberal ideology and move to Canada if you don't like it.

Once again, I do not appreciate your constant insults. I will ask this again, can we not have a conversation like a couple of adults? Where is all of this emotion coming from?

With that said, why do you classify me as a Liberal? Is it because I don't agree with useless spending?

Did you even read the article that I linked? It talks about spending money on the prevention of terrorism.

What right of mine have I said is being infringed upon?

Again, if you are concerned about safety, do you think there needs to be armed guards at sporting events, movie theaters, or anywhere else a mass of people can congregate?

Last, I am honestly interested in learning about other service's uniforms. You are right, I never did a burial detail and to be honest, I am a little curious about them. I am not above learning about these things.

What service were you with?

If I wanted to insult you, I would have called you a JH. Here's where I bought the devices for my shadow box 3 years ago when I retired after 20 years of service, 18 as an aircrewmember, 16 as a P-3 Flight Engineer and the previous two as a tuberat on EC-130s and KC-130's.

Grunt's Military Site - Your Online Resource for Military Info

The devices probably could have come off but it would have been a pain in the a** to get them back on. Hence they took their uniform off.

You obviously didn't read what I said. I never said that YOU said anything. Please don't imply that I did. That's called spin and I don't appreciate it.

There are more people in this country who would feel as if their personal freedoms would be infringed upon if there was adequate security in all of the places that you mentioned. I personally would rather have some security than none at all.

I simply stated that it is people who think like yourself (not necessarily you)who would be the first to cry foul.

You are being to sensitive and taking it personally. I never made a personal attack and I am insulted that you would imply that I did. I don't know YOU. Only what you are displaying on here.

In the first place I didn't say someone should be fired---the article did---

Now these Marines were escorted directly from the plane where they were assigned to escort the casket by a police officer , all their ID's were checked.
I have seen a few Marines in their Dress uniforms and these uniforms are not Burka's, They don't have large bulges nor places which would hold a bomb conveniently. Surely most any person with normal intelligence could look and see these men not were carrying a bomb. What happened to using a wand like they do at the Court house when the thing beeps. IMO if IF IF these young men had to be stripped down it should have been in a private room or setting where they would not have to strip down in public.

They and the Marine Corp.s suffered an indignity it would have been simple to rectify simply by taking them to a private room.

Speaking of spin.....haha. I am done discussing this situation with you.

If anyone else cares to comment on the issue, please do. I am always up for intelligent debate.
