If x bad thing happens then the people A. did not modernize enough or B. did not follow the old ways enough.

This back and forth has been going on since somewhere around 1100 AD.

Hell, all the modern devices like the net and modern weapons used to fight for Allah that are denied use per the Koran are exempted specifically so people can get back to the old ways.

That's not much different from a pamphlet I read as a teenager, "The U.S. and Great Britain in Prophecy." This claimed that the Anglo-Saxon peoples are really the ten lost tribes of Israel, and that God plans to punish us because of homosexuality and feminism and and no prayer in public school and so forth.

To me, it seems like this type of fundamentalism, whether it's Christian or Islamic, is about fear. It offers a view of God who is quick to show anger, and slow to show mercy, if at all. It treats all of humanity as essentially worthless, like we're incapable of any goodness. Sure, we're the species that birthed Hitler and Stalin and John Wayne Gacy. But we're also the species that birthed Michaelangelo and Einstein and the nameless hero of the 14th Street airliner crash.

Lets go folks,...pack up the vaccines, antibiotics, vitamin supplements, and other benefits of the western world and let Allah care for his devoted children.
