The film from the previous tsunami were so surreal-stuff nightmares are made of. My thoughts go out to those folks and their country!

Does it make me a bad person that my first thought here was "Only 20?"

Not that I want more people to die - it just seems that after 275,000 people died in the last one, having 20 people die in this one seems more like a relief than a disaster.

I honestly belive that is because so many people died in the last one. These people were all so devastated after the Christmas Day Tsunami that they learned to flee to higher ground. They do so just about every time there is a considerable earthquake. I do imgine to number will rise and am willing to bet it will be in the hundreds or thousands. Hopefully I'm wrong.

A powerful earthquake sent a 6-foot-high tsunami crashing into beach resorts on Indonesia’s Java island Monday, killing at least 37 people and extensively damaging hotels, restaurants and homes, officials and witnesses said. One tourist said she saw about 20 bodies at a health clinic while Metro TV, quoting an Indonesian lawmaker, said at least 37 were killed.

Thousands of people fled to higher ground along a 110-mile stretch of the densely populated island’s southern coast, some shouting “Tsunami! Tsunami!” and climbing trees or crowding into mosques to pray. | MORE >>
