Turban Durbin

During Thursday's hearing, Cruz again brought up some of those issues before the committee. In response, Judiciary Chairman Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) proceeded to play the race card against Cruz, accusing him in so many words of "Islamophobia" and insinuating that Cruz suggested Mangi might be a terrorist because he was a Muslim American.

Cruz absolutely went off on Durbin in an inject-in-my-veins response, stating he had the right to respond considering his character had been impugned and refusing to cede time to anyone else on the committee until he corrected the record not only on his own position but on Durbin's shameful demagoguery as well:

In my opinion, that should be the standard tone and tenor of any response that comes from a Republican after a Democrat pulls the kind of pathetic woke stunt Durbin did during the hearing.

They should not back down until they get everyone in the room and perhaps everyone who is watching at home to understand that they have legitimate and relevant arguments against (or for) whatever issue or nominee is being debated.

Further, they need to be willing to call out in no uncertain terms the insulting, underhanded, race-baiting (or woman-card-playing) tactics used against them by their political opponents and note that those tactics go against the ideal of judging a person based on the content of their character (and actions and policy positions) rather than the color of their skin or their sex.

Dump Godwin

Dick Durbin earned the nickname Turban Durbin when he compared U.S. soldiers to Nazis in 2005, a verbal example of Godwin’s law:

As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches one

Norbie remembered it:

Snapped this pic at a red light on my way home from our struggling small business located in the suburbs near the belly of the Chicago beast.

I share the driver’s sentiment, as I suspect many do, but there never seems to be enough living and breathing voters in these parts to overcome “The Machine,” unfortunately.

So we get stuck with jokers like Turban Durbin…

So the ADL - WTF is wrong with them? They must be getting paid because I can't think of a single time they've defended the Jewish people, but I can cite a bunch of times they've sided against Jewish people.

Their primary loyalty is to the Marxist establishment. A.k.a. Democrat.

It's like the SPLC - they are mostly Marxists pushing the Democrat agenda and pitting the races against each other. They instigate more hate than they fight. As far as I can tell, they don't do a damn thing for normal everyday black people.

Dump Godwin

Norbie remembered it:
The evolution of Godwin's Law is pretty simple, but you have to either remember newsgroups - where it originated - or have forums like these where antagonists on an issue simply will not quit. It was more common on newsgroups, because they were open to THE WORLD, and hence had a higher likelihood of participants who just won't let an argument GO.

The premise is simple - a thread starts with a controversial issue - or maybe it doesn't but is easily hijacked and turned into one - and after thirty, forty posts - everyone has said their peace, and moved on to another discussion -

But it very well could have some hangers-on who just won't let it drop. They come up with more and more reasons to fight -

And then it gets personal. You can't JUST be wrong - you must be EVIL. Or stupid - or any of a long list of insults, each ratcheting up the stakes higher and higher.

The longer this lasts, someone will be called the worst thing most people can conceive - a Nazi - or Hitler. Probably somewhere earlier, "racist" was used - or "fascist". Commenters noticed that sometimes, lefties will START with Nazi, racist, white supremacist or fascist, but that reveals something more clear - they don't even have a case to drag out over twenty posts - they go to it right away, because their bag of argument is empty.

Oh one more thing about Godwin - I saw it everywhere. It didn't matter what the argument was - Apple or Microsoft - Kirk or Picard - Football or Soccer - it was endless. People were ready to call each other Nazis - eventually - over ANY disagreement. You could find just a RANDOM newsgroup - find the LONGEST thread and go straight to the end - and people were either calling each other names or arguing about what they said in an earlier post such that it was impossible to figure out WHY they were arguing at all.

Some people just take offense TOO easily.

I could live with a President Cruz
I do like when he goes into bulldog mode and unlike MANY Congress critters (like Durbin) he doesn't need to read from prepared notes to make his points, which tells me they are his opinions/thoughs and not those of his handlers or "aids" (or at least that he has a good memory and a quick wit).

That said, I don't agree with all of those positions, but I would probably pick Cruz over Trump or DeSantis.

Durbin is such a low life scumbag that it is an embarrassment to this country to have him in the Senate.
Illinois certainly has nothing to be proud of electing this scum to the Senate.
He and Raskin are birds of a feather. It shames me that Raskin is from Maryland, but Democrats are the same everywhere.
They will vote for anything with a d behind their name.

The thing that impresses me with him is he is SMART and knows the constitution.
