TV Antennas

Is anybody using a TV Antenna to pick up local TV stations? Where are you located, what type of TV Antenna are you using, and what stations you get would be greatly appreciated. The reason I ask is, I saw where it's possible to get the DC stations in HDTV over Antenna and wondered if it was possible down here in the LP. Since when you call GMP:burning:, they don't even know what HDTV is:rolleyes:, I doubt they will be offering that anytime soon.

Thanks!

Years ago when HDTV was invented, stations couldn't get FCC approval for it because it used too much bandwidth to be picked up by antennas and also wasn't compatable with existing TVs. At the time, there were far more antennas in rural areas, than satelitte or cable and if stations broadcast in HDTV, it would be inaccessable to the large number of people still using antennas. The television industry was told, basically, solve that problem or HDTV wouldn't be allowed in this country. Most of the stations were planning to broadcast two signals simultaneously, one standard, one HDTV to solve the problem. I THINK this is what they are still doing, since there are fewer and fewer antennas, why upgrade the technology to cater to a dying technology.

Bottom line, I don't think it is possible to get HDTV via antenna, get a satelitte.

Almost all the DC channels are broadcasting HDTV over the air with their regular signals. I have HDTV via directv currently but only get a few channels and they say getting the networks in HDTV will be several years because FCC regulations need to be changed....I just want my Alias in HD :bawl:

If you haven't already, you may want to check www.antennaweb.org . Supposedly you can enter your zip code and they'll tell you what type of antenna you need.

Currently, the DC stations are broadcasting HDTV in the UHF range. Most of the HDTV boards I frequent recommend a Channel Master or Winegard antenna. I'll be dropping the dollars for HDTV this month and I plan to try to get the DC stations with an antenna also.
