I would like to have the ability to watch tv on my pc.

Anyone know what is required to do this (tuner cards/sound cards/etc)

I am running windows XP.

Any suggestions for what hardware devises would give the most bang for the buck?

Oh dag! My kids watch TV on PC's all the time. Nobody is home but as soon as I see them I will ask.

I know it's a video card dependant on the signal.

There's lots of stuff out there. Just do a Google for "pc tv tuner". I've seen the PCI card version, and the USB version, both work well. You want high frame rate playback, and now with HD, it needs to be a HighDef tuner. Different cards have different fluff, like picture snapshot or record-to-disk capability.

If I remember right, there are even websites out there that allow you to"tune" to any broadcast channel and watch for free. Never looked into it...

You can get a PCI TV tuner for, ####, $30.

HD is more expensive but they have USB HD TV Tuners now - still under $100.

Also, check hulu.com they have most of FOX and NBC's shows online. NBC also streams Sunday Night Football online. If you've got anyone other than comcast, ESPN also offers espn360.com live coverage. :yay:

There's also youtube. :yay:

Unfortunately, Comcast is pissy about streaming video clogs up after 10 minutes and stops working comcast has been doing this #### long enough to piss off the FCC.

I use the Pinnacle Systems PCTV HD Ultimate Stick. It's USB-2 compatible and contains all the required software on the device. I don't have cable here in Dentsville but I did purchase a Trek antenna and can pick up all the DC stations in Analog, Digital and HD Format. They offer both 32 and 64 bit drivers for XP and Vista.
