There are three divisions in the Festival — Elementary School, Middle School and High School. Suggested lengths of plays are 3-15 minutes for Elementary School, 7-20 minutes for Middle School, and 10-15 minutes for High School. The judges reserve the right award prizes to outstanding plays that do not fall within these guidelines, but lengthy plays cannot be produced.
Each play will be read by a panel of at least three judges. Entries must be postmarked no later than April 15, 2022, and winners will be notified no later than June 1. Submit plays to Twin Beach Players, P.O. Box 600, Chesapeake Beach, MD 20732, ATTN: Audra Vernier, or via email to avernier@twinbeachplayers. com.
A completed entry form must accompany each play. Plays will be performed by Youth Troupe members, with auditions in early June and performances over two weekends in August.
The play must be the original work of one student submitting it — no collaborations or adaptations. Adults may give general advice about dramatic form, but all action, characters and dialog must be solely the work of one student.
The festival is limited to non-musical plays, though scripts may call for brief music or song as part of the action. Otherwise plays may be of any kind — comedy, drama, science fiction, mystery, fantasy, etc. — on any subject with any number of scenes.
Prizes will be awarded based on imagination and human values as well as play writing skill. The age and grade of the playwright will be taken into consideration by the judges.
