The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Women’s Cross Country team ended their season with impressive times and honors at the last championship meet of the year.
Sophomore Sierra Walker and freshman Brittney Douglas finished fifth and 10th overall, respectively, out of 35 runners in the women’s 5K race at the Maryland Junior Athletic Conference (MDJUCO) and the National Junior College Athletic Assocation (NJCAA) Region XX Cross Country Championship on Oct. 26 at Hagerstown Community College.
Walker ran her fastest 5K time ever at 22:57.2. She finished fifth among 18 Region XX Division I runners and fourth out of 25 MDJUCO runners. She also earned All-Region XX Division I and All-MDJUCO honors with her performance. This was Walker’s second year being named to the All-Region and All-Conference teams.
Douglas completed the race in 23:35.1, nearly 20 seconds faster than her other 5K race this season. She finished seventh among Region XX Division I and MDJUCO runners, and was also named to the All-MDJUCO team.
Freshman Briana Douglas submitted a time of 26:05.3. Her time put her in ninth place out of Region XX Division I runners, 13th out of MDJUCO runners, and 20th overall.
Freshman Gabrielle Wilson stuck to her routine of shaving 25 seconds off her previous best time, finishing the race in 29:49.3. She placed 16th in Region XX Division I runners, 22nd out of MDJUCO runners, and 31st overall.
This was the last race of CSM’s 2019 cross country season. “For a championship meet, everyone laid it one the line and came through knowing it was the last meet of the season,” Killion said. “Everyone should be proud of how they performed.”

CSM Head Coach Ken Killion said he was happy about Wilson’s impressive streak. “I don’t think I have ever seen anyone run a personal best in each race that she ran during a season,” he said. “What made the women’s race sweeter was that everyone on the team beat someone that had beaten them the week before.”
