GENEVA, March 12 (Reuters) - A U.N. human rights mission on Monday accused Sudan's government of orchestrating and taking part in war crimes in Darfur and called for urgent international action to protect civilians there.

The United Nations mission, led by Nobel peace prize laureate Jody Williams, was dispatched by the U.N. Human Rights Council to investigate charges of widespread abuse in Sudan's vast western region, where observers say some 200,000 people have been killed since revolt broke out in 2003.

"The situation is characterised by gross and systematic violations of human rights and grave breaches of international humanitarian law," the mission said in a report to the Council.

A high-level U.N. human rights team said Monday the Sudanese government has orchestrated crimes against humanity in Darfur, and it urged stronger Security Council action because steps taken so far by the international community have proven ineffective.

In one of the hardest-hitting and most explicit reports in a series submitted to the world body, the team called for U.N. Security Council intervention, sanctions and criminal prosecution.

The team, headed by Nobel peace laureate Jody Williams, was itself barred by Sudanese officials from the restive region, where more than 200,000 people have died and more than 2.5 million have been displaced by fighting in Darfur.

Solution: Send send in George Clooney and the rest of the hollywood moonbats. They know far more about human rights and foreign policy than anyone at the UN.

No no no....... First there must be at least 17 UNRs ratified against the Sudan. Then there must be harsher, yet ambiguous language in the last one... Something to the effect of "... or face serious consequences". Then they must have one final "and we really mean it this time". Then they have to make one last stand by putting harsher sanctions on the Sudanese government which will result in starving more of the Sudanese people. Then as a final final stand, they must have endless hearings on what they should do since all their idle threats haven't worked. :bigwhoop:

I love how the report criticizes other nations for not doing anything. :killingme:

Shouldn't it criticize the U.N.?

We'd present a resolution to act on these recomendations and the U.N. would just say, "They're trying to start another war."

let these losers declare a need and send in the signatories .....

Give them a police force with authority to go into these problem areas ....

Funny how the socialists want to save the world, but think talk will only solve the matter ....... A big boot up someone's ass is the only to solve issues like this ........
