Ugly Sotterley slave Plantation.

Your math seems flawed. From what I could find the first "slaves" arrived in early 1600 as indentured servants. Most of these had been white British people. The first official slave was sentenced to slavery around 1640. Most of the first Black slaves were indentured servants, who upon completion of a said term had been given land, animals and tools to develop their own plantations.

Slaves prior to this had been on Spanish settlements.

Based on your logic slavery just ended around 1940, and the so called "Jim Crow Laws" will still be in effect until around 2040. So no I guess you are psychic.
This above is another example of white people being wrongfully informed.

And the Sotterley slave plantation continues that white ignorance through the teachings of the white lies.

Here is the info = For 300 years more than 11 million enslaved African people were transported across the Atlantic from Africa

And do take note that is a British (UK) link, because most American links on this subject are saturated with the ugly white lies.

I have said that the Sotterley plantation could be torn down and replaced by such as a school or nursing home as those would be improvements.
:
Better go find another cause, Jimmy. Sotterly isn't going anywhere.

Why don't you advocate and lobby for the replacement of a tragically lost icon business in St. Mary's County...Roses? Now that would be a much more constructive use of your limited talents....don't you think?

At least there are some whould really would thank you for that.

At least the opening line does demonstrate that the white trash traitor Robert E Lee did fight the Civil War because of the slavery, which is contrary to the popular white lie that he was a traitor based on some State's Rights.

And in the slavery days the black people tried to buy their family members and friends as slaves as one of the few ways they had of gaining their freedom.

It truly is outrageous that some gutless white people will try to blame the black people for any aspect of the slavery, as if the white power was not the ones in charge of it all as they surely were.

The Sotterley plantation presents this same kind of white lies, in that the white slave masters did not do anything wrong, and it is a lie - white lies.

In the rare instances when the ownership of slaves by free Negroes is acknowledged in the history books, justification centers on the claim that black slave masters were simply individuals who purchased the freedom of a spouse or child from a white slaveholder and had been unable to legally manumit them. Although this did indeed happen at times, it is a misrepresentation of the majority of instances, one which is debunked by records of the period on blacks who owned slaves. These include individuals such as Justus Angel and Mistress L. Horry, of Colleton District, South Carolina, who each owned 84 slaves in 1830. In fact, in 1830 a fourth of the free Negro slave masters in South Carolina owned 10 or more slaves; eight owning 30 or more (2).
So Jimmy..based on your extensive scholalry research, what part of the above is lies?

You cannot strictly blame the British/white man without putting blame on the tribal leaders who would trade their own people for guns and manufactured goods.

Excellent.

Wasn't your question answered by a few dozen comments left under the letter that you sent to The BayNet?
I did not ask a question there, just as I did not ask a question here.

I am the one giving out the information, and I am giving the answers too.

I tend not to say much on this fourm, Please help me understand that you worked on this plantation when you were a young adult and now you are disabled and living on the Government Plantation does that mean we should tear that down also ?
What you are playing into is another white lie which I will happily explain.

The white trash (mostly Republican Party) claim that giving welfare or Public Assistance is a representation of the old Plantation mentality, and they (mostly Republican Party) want to deny Social Services and deny Public Assistance to the poor and needy citizens as if that is what the old Plantations use to do, and all of that is not true and it is just giving severely deviant white lies.

The old Plantations did not give welfare or assistance as they gave whips and hangings and raping and worse.

Being given Public Assistance to the poor and needy and to the Disabled and the elderly is in opposition to the Plantation mentality, because the real Plantation mentality would demand unhealthy work instead of compassion.

This, too, is disturbing...

Although a successful businessman and cotton farmer, Ellison's major source of income derived from being a "slave breeder." Slave breeding was looked upon with disgust throughout the South, and the laws of most southern states forbade the sale of slaves under the age of 12. In several states it was illegal to sell inherited slaves (9). Nevertheless, in 1840 Ellison secretly began slave breeding.

While there was subsequent investment return in raising and keeping young males, females were not productive workers in his factory or his cotton fields. As a result, except for a few females he raised to become "breeders," Ellison sold the female and many of the male children born to his female slaves at an average price of $400. Ellison had a reputation as a harsh master. His slaves were said to be the district's worst fed and clothed. On his property was located a small, windowless building where he would chain his problem slaves.

It is not really all that difficult to figure out.

But I must agree that the white lies are very clever.

They mix in bits of truth and then throw in their white trash as if it is a secret message.

And us white have the racist code words all around, so the white lies are often rather well done.

A person (a white person) has got to want to be honest and respectful and then it becomes cowardly to hide behind the white lies.

Actually factually and truthfully then all I am really doing is blaming the Sotterley slave Plantation as it is an ugly and disgusting place infecting our St Mary's County.

The African people did have problems in their own African lands, but we too have our own problems here in this land of ours here in SMC.

The first slaves were sold by their own people. No white lie there, its documented buddy!

Not all slave owners were SOB's that mistreated them. No white lie there. It was a terrible time in which many whites weren't going to let the Jones get them down. It represented (sadly) your station in life and you went along with the program. Thus producing many good Masta's that tried to make good of a bad situation by being kind. Slavery was abolished so lets move on. OK?

Wrong? Yes it was, but that was a different time. There are many things we have found that were wrongly done in history by today's standards. Lets just not repeat them.

Sotterley Plantation has a place in history and should remain IMHO as a reminder of that history.

The thing is that the Sotterley Plantation does NOT let us move on, as it does NOT give us an honest reminder of the history.

What the Sotterley slave Plantation does promote is a very distorted account of history based on a pack of white lies.

No, what I say is that you misuse bits of truth in order to support your huge pack of white lies.

And anyone can read my prior posting where I did agree that some black people did indeed own other black people (under the white law) because buying their family or friends was one way of getting them free from the slavery by the whites.

Then why don't you lobby to get it a grounds face lift and some repairs to the deterioration? Not to demolish it. I'm sure volunteers could be found so that would save tax payers money...still leaving the bulk for politicians to rip off.

Washington D.C. has many landmarks in need of repair, but to destroy them wouldn't be the answer would it?

I read all of the postings on this thread including your postings, and I truly never ever ignore anybody who communicates with me.

I just did not see any response for me to give to your postings.

Many times I do not respond to different people simply because they have the right to give their own opinions without me attacking every little detail or comment.

Also I do not see why your posting was deleted, as I hope it was not done by the Moderator, but I see you are a "Premo" which means you might have deleted your own posting.

And I do appreciate your reckless defiance on this forum.

Sotterley is not in need of repair, and it is not ugly due to any lack of repairs.

Of course you could see why the place is ugly as told in the opening post which goes like this:

It is ugly because Sotterley is built upon the most brutal hatred that the USA has ever known, it was built by violent exploitation and by cruel butchery and by sinful greed.

To tear the place down and stomp it into the ground would be a rightful end to that trashy plantation.

Duh, I can read, I was being....oh never mind. Lets move on.

So you say ...You are a trip Mr. P you come in here and try to present yourself as knowing more than historians. Putting issues on the table that aren't even issues in others minds. Seems to me you're a big part of the problem since you have no valid solutions or fact based arguments I might add. I would love to have money and trace your family. Wonder where your roots started growing? These things are things that our ancestors were involved in, not us. Its truly sad that in many families (both black and white)the hate was passed on even after changes. The only reason the card is still out there to play IMHO.

You remind me of Don Quixote. WALK AWAY FROM THE WINDMILL sir and put your energy in a problem that exists in SM that is a blemish. Drugs for example, traffic...schools going downhill ...lack of good affordable mental health care. I got a millllllion of em' as they say. ;)
