Ultimate Road Trip - FAIL

My problem with these "ultimate road trip" maps is that they don't really hit the stuff you want to (should) see. Nebraska, for instance - he takes you through the northeastern corner where there is nothing (seriously, you can't even find a gas station up there), totally ignoring Minden, Lincoln, and Omaha, which are the places you'd actually be interested in. If you're rolling through Texas, the Alamo isn't going to be the #1 must-see on your list. Of all the cool places to visit in Kansas, he only has you stopping at a museum in Leavenworth. And there is no point in driving to New Orleans if you're not even going to go over the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway.

FAIL!!!

Interactive map, so you can actually see what you're missing:

So! Since we forum members are from all over the place and many of us are quite well-traveled, let's make a REAL ultimate road trip. Choose your state and tell everyone what they have to see on their cross-country road trip.

This is a road trip;

Acquire fabulous traveling companion replete with complimentary skill set and personality and so forth, ie, someone you just enjoy being with. A lot.

Get a months time.

Load up RV, preferable a 27-31 foot class C because they are a decent compromise between capacity and ability to get into smaller places than a full on bus or pulling a trailer and your stuff is ALWAYS with you.

Leave.

Stop where you please when you please.

Next morning, where do you want to go today?

Stop where you please when you please.

I am of the view that it is NOT the destination. It is the journey.
