United Airlines CEO addresses string of incidents, tells passengers carrier is safe

United is under scrutiny following issues involving its Boeing, Airbus aircraft

United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby reassured flyers in a letter this week that the carrier is looking into the string of incidents that have recently involved its planes, from engine and structural issues to a wheel falling off during takeoff.

At least six unrelated incidents have occurred on planes operated by United since the end of February. Five of them involved a Boeing plane.

"Safety is our highest priority and is at the center of everything we do," Kirby said in a letter sent to United customers. "Unfortunately, in the past few weeks, our airline has experienced a number of incidents that are reminders of the importance of safety."

Sounds like a good idea. Kind of like Walmart self checkout.

Say, isn't that big, blue and white airplane in Evil DC; that 747 made by Boeing? I know the maintenance is better - okay, historically, it's always been top notch, but with DIE policies infecting every aspect of American culture, including the military, who knows? - but still, anything could happen. Would be a shame.

The door falls off? Boeings fault.
The tire falls off? A maintenance issue.
Most MM tires I changed have a LARGE castellated nut on the axle that gets torqued snug then backed off to next castellation with new bolt, washer and stop nut pointing down thru the axle. No doubt different bird to bird but similar. I could go back to DC 6's but I forgot those procedures. I can honestly say, never lost one because I knew wtf I was doing and if it were going to happen it would have happened here.Dc 9's torque wrench but still similar.
