Ever since United Healthcare bought out MD-IPA, the whole company has been one giant cluster-@#$%
I have a skin condition on my arms that is similar to acne. So, the doc prescribed a retinol-type cream. The insurance rejected it, telling the pharmacy that they were rejecting it because it wasn't indicated given my age. I'm not a teenager, so I accepted that explanation and consulted the doctor about other options. The letter UHC sent me said "we don't cover wrinkle creams."
I was livid, it's not like I'm THAT old or that vain. So, I called to complain about the insult and the insurance company blamed it on the prescription company they subcontract with. I was bounced around to 4 different people before winding right back with the first person I started with.
So I sent an email, but the email address was wrong and after tracking down the right one, they never responded. This was not quite a year ago and it was during open-enrollment. I threatened to drop them, but in the end, Huntr wouldn't let me because the insurance companies I was looking at at the time wouldn't cover his favorite chiropractor.
Little did he know that they would drop his chiropractor from coverage as of January 1, without telling the chiropractor. Actually, I think the doctor opted out of United Healthcare without realizing that they had bought MD-IPA. The MD-IPA website is still active and the chiro still shows as a participating doctor, but they aren't on the UHC website.
Meanwhile, my doctor tried to get several different prescriptions passed the insurance company, so I kept getting these letters telling me I was old and wrinkled.
They also changed the coverage terms of having a baby and hid the fact in fine print, which I think is a violation of their agreement to cover federal employees. My last child was covered under MD-IPA and the whole pregnancy cost me under $200 out of pocket. This one cost more than three times that and I'm not sure all the bills are in yet. The funny thing is, there are some things they covered with this baby that they wouldn't have with the others because they consider me to be too old to be having kids. It was the ordinary things that they jacked the price up on.
So, I called about 5 weeks ago to add the baby to the policy....they tell me to expect a card in 10-14 business days. I called today to ask where my card was and they had never added her to the policy.
Come on open enrollment.
