Unlawful Sexual Relations

Leviticus 18:1 The Lord said to Moses, 2 “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘I am the Lord your God. 3 You must not do as they do in Egypt, where you used to live, and you must not do as they do in the land of Canaan, where I am bringing you. Do not follow their practices. 4 You must obey my laws and be careful to follow my decrees. I am the Lord your God. 5 Keep my decrees and laws, for the person who obeys them will live by them. I am the Lord.
6 “‘No one is to approach any close relative to have sexual relations. I am the Lord.
7 “‘Do not dishonor your father by having sexual relations with your mother. She is your mother; do not have relations with her.
8 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s wife; that would dishonor your father.
9 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your sister, either your father’s daughter or your mother’s daughter, whether she was born in the same home or elsewhere.
10 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your son’s daughter or your daughter’s daughter; that would dishonor you.
11 “‘Do not have sexual relations with the daughter of your father’s wife, born to your father; she is your sister.
12 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your father’s sister; she is your father’s close relative.
13 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your mother’s sister, because she is your mother’s close relative.
14 “‘Do not dishonor your father’s brother by approaching his wife to have sexual relations; she is your aunt.
15 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your daughter-in-law. She is your son’s wife; do not have relations with her.
16 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your brother’s wife; that would dishonor your brother.
17 “‘Do not have sexual relations with both a woman and her daughter. Do not have sexual relations with either her son’s daughter or her daughter’s daughter; they are her close relatives. That is wickedness.
18 “‘Do not take your wife’s sister as a rival wife and have sexual relations with her while your wife is living.
19 “‘Do not approach a woman to have sexual relations during the uncleanness of her monthly period.
20 “‘Do not have sexual relations with your neighbor’s wife and defile yourself with her.
21 “‘Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molek, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the Lord.
22 “‘Do not have sexual relations with a man as one does with a woman; that is detestable.
23 “‘Do not have sexual relations with an animal and defile yourself with it. A woman must not present herself to an animal to have sexual relations with it; that is a perversion.
24 “‘Do not defile yourselves in any of these ways, because this is how the nations that I am going to drive out before you became defiled. 25 Even the land was defiled; so I punished it for its sin, and the land vomited out its inhabitants. 26 But you must keep my decrees and my laws. The native-born and the foreigners residing among you must not do any of these detestable things, 27 for all these things were done by the people who lived in the land before you, and the land became defiled. 28 And if you defile the land, it will vomit you out as it vomited out the nations that were before you.
29 “‘Everyone who does any of these detestable things—such persons must be cut off from their people. 30 Keep my requirements and do not follow any of the detestable customs that were practiced before you came and do not defile yourselves with them. I am the Lord your God.’”
Here's the link to the commentary I read.

Then the LORD spoke to Moses: This chapter is one of the most extensive and direct passages in the Bible reflecting God’s stated will and commands regarding the expression of human sexuality. These are the words of God, and as such they have immeasurably more authority than the words, opinions, theories, desires, feelings, longings, or wishes of any person or persons.
You shall not let any of your descendants pass through the fire to Molech: The horrific worship of the pagan idol Molech began by heating a metal statue representing the god until it was red hot. Then a living infant was placed on the outstretched hands of the statue while beating drums drowned out the screams of the child until it burned to death.
Nor shall you profane the name of your God: It is obvious God would condemn such an abomination. But this command is here in the context of sexual sins because often, Molech worship was a method of infanticide to eliminate children born outside of marriage, the result of the sexual acts God had commanded against.

Molech worship can be seen as an ancient version of birth control by infanticide, as even today sometimes abortion is used as birth control after the conception of the child.
It is an abomination: Specifically, what is condemned is the practice of male homosexuality. This prohibition is widely rejected and despised by many in modern western culture, and even considered hateful.
It is perversion: To practice this was to defile yourself; to make yourself unclean and impure. It was rightly regarded as perversion, an ungodly combining of what should not be brought together when it comes to sexual behavior.
The persons who commit them shall be cut off from among their people: God commanded that in Israel, there should be a strong sense of social disapproval — amounting to exile — towards those who broke these laws of sexual morality. These are family-killing sins and therefore civilization-killing sins.
Well... You can read it for yourselves. God has a lot of rules about Sex.

I skipped over all the rules about cooking and skin disease and bodily discharge. Please go back and read them as soon as you get the time. Yep, God has rules about a woman's period and how she should deal with it. No, it's not a commercial for Tampex.

Check out verse 21. This god Molek [Molech] is the god of abortion. Let me post the explanation from the commentary again....

I'm not beating that despicable horse again. Everyone knows it's wrong to kill babies.
Now look at verses 24-28, please. What does it mean when God says the land will vomit you out?

God has already washed the earth clean of perversion once. The flood washed away all but Noah and his three sons and all the wives. Right away, Noah's son, Ham, got cursed for something. Humans are "blessed" with the ability to choose and some choose acts that get them cursed.

Humans really have a wicked side. At least abortions have gotten more civilized.

I made the local newspaper a few years ago. I was running for Commissioner in Calvert County and I got blasted because I had a strong stance against abortion. I thought all abortion should be illegal.... but I've been bumped out of my shell and I now realize there are innocent women involved too. It's not just the wicked who have abortion.

Back in the days when this was written, men were in charge. Women had no say. If a man needed to unload, he'd grab whatever female who happened to be around. IMHO... Those are the babies that would have been sacrificed to Molech. How horrible would it be to be raped and then have to smell the burnt skin too, or hear the screams?

Sleeping with family members is not allowed. That would produce "inbreeding". It was not allowed.

So... If the Israelites want to practice abortion, homosexuality, and have sex with their favorite horse... or better yet... make their slave women have sex with a donkey while they watch... Well, that's going to get everyone "vomited" out of the Promised Land.

My Online Bible titled this chapter.... not me....
