Go into your control panel, look at programs installed and sort by date... you have obviously downloaded some other idiot program that is doing this. I had the same thing happen myself.

What comes up? Have no clue what is coming up for you. But by default, Chrome comes up requesting you login to GMAIL or Google account to sync everything. I do not like this part so ignore it. I set mine up for a Weather Page as my Home Page when it first starts. If I hit "Home" any other time I get the Google Search Page.

I'll bet there was a checkbox you missed when installing Chrome that authorized the install of this program.

Can you check the following to see if there are traces of search.conduit.com there?
If search.conduit.com pages are opening up each time you start up Chrome, check in Wrench > Settings > On Startup > next to the radio button for Open a specific page or set of pages, click on Set pages > remove any unwanted URLs by hovering over the URL until you see an "X" appear to the right side of the UR
