Up for grabs - garage door opener

Does anybody have a need or want for a garage door opener? It's a Chamberlain 1/2 HP Security+ unit (model 41A5021-C), and it was manufactured 9/1998. It comes with all hardware, mounting equipment, entry keypad, and two remotes.

It "sticks" sometimes - probably 15% of the time - where it doesn't open when the remote button is hit. It ultimately DOES open, but you might have to fidget with the remote about 8-10 times or so before the door opens or closes. It is just frustrating enough to fiddle with that we bought and installed a new garage door opener.

If no one wants it, I'll list it under Freecycle and see if I get any hits off of that posting.

If you're interested, shoot me a PM.

Did you ever try to change the batteries in the controller or re sync the frequencies?

No. I just pushed the button and it didn't work. I do believe that Bob tried all those little tricks to make it work consistently. As I mentioned, it did/does work 85% of the time.

Don't tell me that I wasted $258 on a new opener for nothing. :nono:

 Maybe. My Magnum had a Homelink system built into it, which would control 3 wireless openers. My cousin was having the same problem. I programmed my car to his freq and it opened everytime. So I changed the batteries in his remote then re-set the freq.

Yeah, my Explorer had the frequency built in to it also. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't.

Perhaps we should have played with the remotes/frequency a little more before heading out to purchase a new one. Oh well. :ohwell:

I've been putting off getting one to replace mine which was zapped by lightning. If it's still available I'd love to have it. :howdy:

Yes and yes..

While programming the homelink on her car, I erased the link in the remotes so I reprogrammed all the remotes, AND did her homelink. Sometimes we'd go to leave and it wouldn't shut the door, would have to go inside and use the home unit to close the door, then the remote and the homelink would work fine on our return. Most itmes when the homelink button didn't work the handheld remote would, it was just REALLY frustrating. The interior control unit worked 100% of the time, as did the door opener on the bike.

The unit does work, and most times the stand alone remotes worked OK, not very much range, but what do you want for free?

I installed a new belt drive garage door opener last night.. and this morning forgot to shut the door, about 2/3 of the way up the driveway (I think that's about 1.75 miles) the remote worked. And it's SOOOOO quiet.. I had to look in the rear view mirror this morning to make sure the door was opening.

Prior to installing the gargage door opener last night, installed a window AC unit in the garage.. Bike days are going to be Air Conditioned from now on!!!

Garage with A/C can't ask for much more than that.. Well maybe, Beer fridge in there too. Sometimes these dang computer things are just too smart for their own good.
